Buying Back Bodyguards. Started by: Raccoon on Jul 08, '15 09:47

During the big war as of recent an idea struck me regarding bodyguards.

I'm thinking if you've had your bodyguards shot at x times in an x amount of time, you shouldn't be able to replace them with new ones so soon (Granted, they're not the fully trained bodyguards, but the 10% new ones).

Why would a bodyguard jump in for a possible employer if they've lost 150 bodyguards in the span of 12 hours? I don't think anyone as a bodyguard would risk their lives so stupidly if they knew such a thing.

I've spoken to some of my peers regarding it and have received positive comments regarding it.

I don't know of good variables for how many bodyguards in how many minutes/hours it would take, so I'd appreciate some feedback.

05:21:57 <%morty> ok.
05:22:09 <%morty> So; in the last war there was multiple people buying back their bodyguards.
05:22:12 <%morty> every time they died
05:22:17 <%morty> so they had a TON of 10% ones
05:22:20 <%morty> right
05:22:30 <%morty> If you lost x% of your bgs in x time
05:22:37 <%morty> you shouldn't be allowed to buy them back right away
05:22:47 <%morty> why would bodyguards want to work for someone whos bodyguards keep dying?

05:24:35 <%morty> why would any bodyguard want to work fro you then?
05:24:46 <%GoodFellas> who would take a job knowing they're gonna get shot at
05:24:49 <%GoodFellas> etc
05:24:49 <%morty> or if they do, it should be at an increased price?

As above, possibly the bodyguards could be bought if they know the risk is big if the price is increased at a percentage that is reasonable?

Wouldn't work at all.

I think this is a excellent suggestion.

Thank you Raccon for suggesting this, because a bodyguard would probably not want to work if they know that they will die not longer after being hired.

Don't we have a fire the body guards option that essentially is this already?

I'm a little torn on this one really.

From a realism point of view, of course, there is hardly going to be a pool of guys ready to take on bodyguard work for someone being riddled with holes.

However, from a practical gameplay point of view, I kind of like the idea that if people have generated enough cash they can keep buying back bodyguards. Killing a boss or a Godfather should be difficult and whilst I'm not an advocate for site-wide wars, I do like ones that require BG wacking to get the job done. If you've got access to vast amounts of wealth, why shouldn't you be able to use it? Then, as you say they are untrained and only adding, in the scheme of things, a small amount of protection, so why make any changes at all?

Report Post Tip

I actually very much like this suggestion both from a realism point of view and from a gameplay point of view.

Realistically, even untrained BGs (telling a guy off the street "I'll pay you 50k to protect me") aren't going to be interested in leaping in front of bullets for you. And along the line of "supply vs. demand," I'd argue that if demand for BGs shoots up (you're being shot at and losing BGs), the price should go up. Since we haven't implemented anything to adjust the supply of BGs to buy (perhaps something to explore later), the price can only respond to demand. So I'm in favor of increasing the price when BGs are in higher demand.

From a gameplay point of view; I actually don't think we should belittle "vast wealth," but rather make it more costly to sustain your defenses as wars drag on. Sure, you can survive a few waves of BGs with lots of cash, but money isn't power. Power is power. And as it gets harder for you to hold onto that power (losing a war) the translation of money into power should get more and more difficult to sustain.

I'd agree that buying back that protection (which, as you've said Credits, isn't a huge boost) isn't a lot of additional defense, but it pulls away from other expenses like private flights, HQs, and other things. Basically says "you can appear well protected or you can spend money on other things" rather than allowing for both (after a long period of BG waving).

And I'd even argue that it shouldn't just be in the last 12 hours but for the whole account-length. As you're targeted in wars more and more, BGs are less and less interested in working for you. So if you survive being BG waved a few times, your BG costs shoot up. That puts a natural pressure on older accounts and it's completely consistent with realism.

Report Post Tip

No Ragnarok, did you read this at all?

I must agree with you Credits. From a realism point of view, they would never, no.

While I do like bodyguard waving much more than a huge gun just one shotting them without much effort involved but a click.

Buying back bodyguards still helps, you're right, I just don't think from a realism pov that it was correct. I thank you though credits for your criticism.

I quite agree with you as well orsik - Money is not power, power is power. I couldn't have said it better myself.

The 10% bodyguards bought back don't help that much and generally only appear to others that their protection level is higher then what it really is.

I'm with you Orsik, I like the idea of someones bodyguard costs shooting up depending on the situation (E.G - They're being bodyguard waved. No BG will want to work for them unless its highly worthwhile).

Thank you for your constructive critism, much appreciated.

I propose a "happy medium". A dead BG occupies a spot for a certain amount of time. If I started a war with the cap of BGs and I get BG waved completely, I can buy back a few BGs for cheap. But if my dead BGs are still taking up their spots, then it's like I'm buying the top, most expensive BGs again instead of the cheaper ones.

Perhaps the balance could be that while having dead BGs on the payroll I could buy above the cap, just to replace the dead ones but they would be more expensive.

Am I making sense, Raccoon?

That sounds just great as a half way point Alistair

Thank you for your input!

still a 10/10 suggestion.

I really like this!

Report Post Tip

Wow, what a great suggestion, terribly underlooked.

I'm sure the author is an amazing person.

Still a 10/10 suggestion.

Report Post Tip

You know, that Zoinks fella really brought up a lot of good points to counteract this.

Report Post Tip

I like this idea, however they should increase in price per wack attempt and then have a cooldown for the price. That way if people are desperate they'll spend a lot more on BG's then what they normally do.
