Streets sweepers Started by: Sovereign on Jul 29, '15 22:22
Hello all.
My suggestion concerns the streets, and the quality of the streets. Quality control more specifically. As of now (If I'm not mistaken) only administrators can remove posts or move threads. I think that's not very efficient at all. I think a lot of the time admins will have more important things to do than quality control of the streets.

Thus I propose that there will be a dedicated team of "streets sweepers" again, with the power to (re)move threads and posts. However, since this is strictly about keeping OOC out of the streets, they will only be destroying posts which are obviously referencing to OOC content and stuff like smileys. These streets sweepers will be neutral and will remove ANY ooc post. A standardized protocol like mailing the post's author with a copy of his original post and the reason why it was removed would do much good for the streets in my opinion.

Thoughts?

I like this idea. I think it will improve written roleplays, especially with the comments as to why, instead of just deleting/moving posts. Some people really don't know they have gone OOC, so feedback is crucial to helping them learn imo.

Supporting this.

The problem is people get very very bent out of shape when something is removed. This leads to childish outbursts and accusations of favoritism.  (Of the 3 million posts, you deleted mine but not  post #13151513 from 2 months ago thats on page 9 that you never saw!  Favoritism!) The damage done by these sort of outbursts just are not good for the game, the staff, or for players.

We will not be putting the game or staff into a position where this can possibly be a problem any more.  The forums can easily be policed by the very crews that these members are speaking on the behalf of.  The crews that do allow their members to trash the forums can be policed by the very districts that these crews reside in.  The districts that do allow their crews to trash the forums can be policed by the very city that these crews reside in. There should be no such thing as repeat offenders, because after their first issue, it would be addressed by those tasked for maintaining the crew's discipline.  I would much rather see the guidance by the family of the member, than the administration.

I think that if we make a team from street-savvy players that (think) they can handle some shit-slinging, that wouldn't be as much of a problem. Another good solution would be to ignore it! It would be a shame if this wouldn't work because of some childish people that can't handle the poor quality of their own posts.

Or (I don't know if this is possible) implement a system where these street sweepers can mail you, but you can't mail them back, to prevent bitching, accusations and harassment.

Players can police the forum in a way, but not in the way staff can. They can't delete posts for example. I don't think its too much about repeat offenders, but even one OOC reference qualifies a post to be removed in my opinion.

For as long as I can remember, whenever we have had street sweepers, we've had bullshit drama as well. As with a lot of things here, the bullshit drama usually actually outweighs the initial problem, meaning rather than improving the quality of the forums, they were littered with 100s of reasons why Mr Street Cleaner was a biased asshole.

Personally, I would rather see a bit of common sense used. If someone is clearly and deliberately going OOC or contributing a little, bring it up with their leader. I like to think I see most of the posts my members make in the Streets because I'm active there. However, I'll always miss the odd one or something in another forum that I haven't seen. Any mail with the subject line "Inappropriate Post" will get my attention and I can make a judgement call on what to do about it. If it really crosses a line, don't we have the report function for this purpose?

I'm more concerned about people slipping (making them and their post look silly) with keeping in their role. Since there is no dedicated team to ''sweep'' these posts, multiple people reply to them before they can be cleaned and then it's no longer practical to remove these posts, thus leaving stains on the streets.

Posts that deliberately go OOC will most likely be removed in time anyway.

Others have far more important concerns.  This is trivial but then again coming from you does not surprise me in the least.

Whispers exits this soapbox.
