A Good Day to Raid Started by: SammyGato on Aug 17, '09 15:26

On the August eve of another late-summer day, a lone man of no more than sixteen years had found peace outside a quiet Detroit café. He took out a cigarette and lit it from a box of matches, the flame illuminating his face for a brief moment. Wisps of dark smoke reached gradually upwards into the evening calm, their movements erratic in contrast to the stillness of the night. It curled in places, separating and twirling at the slightest manipulation, before dissipating totally into the city air.

Samuel Gato took a drag. The burning tip glowed as he inhaled and the smoke sunk deep into his lungs, it bit into his immature organs while the drug passed into his blood stream, the sensation and psychological fix satisfying the young man, before being ejected back out into the air and disappearing from sight.

He doubted they could ever prove that this had as harming effect on your health that was greater than the relaxing release it delivered. Besides, the young Gato had never really expected to die quietly in his bed.

Peering from under his trilby, Sammy spotted a shadow walking quickly across the sidewalk. The figure grew nearer, passing under the long series of street lights and casting leaping silhouettes where he trod. The man was dressed mostly in black, which included his eyes, hidden behind darkened shades and keeping his identity hard to grasp at first glance. He walked with a purpose, a distinct air of authority and discipline about his character.

Never leaving room for error, Sammy kept a wary eye on the man, taking a final drag and letting his cigarette butt fall to the floor, he opened his jacket and let one hand slip inside. Standing slowly, he  crushed the remaining burning embers underfoot, and focussed on the approaching body whom had now crossed the streets.

He soon recognised the man, it was Terranova, a close associate and member of Kathryne MacLeod's Renaissance. He made his way hastily over to Samuel, his eyes still unseen, the sunglasses providing him with an aura of mystery and in some sense, an unpredictable nature. The two shook hands and Sammy became seated once more, leaning back into his chair.

"Good evening, James"

The last of the cigarette smoke escaped Sammy's lips as he greeted his associate, which then curled into a friendly smile.

James Terranova tipped his hat and took a seat, after having a quick look around the exterior of the building, he sat back and gestured towards the entrance.

"Is she...?"

"Indeed, she's just sorting out some business then we're off. I think it's best we don't use her name though, you never know"

"Agreed"

The two men sat patiently outside the café, both keeping alert and aware of their surroundings, all the while the nights events were ticking through Samuel Gato's mind, and yet to unfold.
