Minimum Rank 'Gangster' To Post In RP Forums Started by: Sereno on Aug 12, '15 16:25

Something like this may have been raised in the past, but figured I'd put the suggestion out there as I'm not sure if this exact suggestion has been raised.

I propose a minimum rank requirement of Gangster to post in RP forums.

I'm sure many notice throw away accounts being created and either starting threads that are done to cause shit in The Streets, or just posting in others to cause shit.

I figure other game mechanics are restricted till certain ranks are reached (starting OC's at Made Man, the various different felonies that require a certain rank, starting a crew etc. etc.) so why not have a very simple restriction that only ranks Gangster and above are able to post in the RP forums.

I propose lower ranks can still post in the other forums, just not in RP heavy environments.

This will hopefully reduce these kamikaze posts and although sometimes they can be amusing, in my opinion they lower the standards of the Streets and just plain cause unnecessary OOC shit. The posts I refer to are those that take digs at other members and blatantly offend others just for the fuck of it because they know they will be suiciding shortly. If they weren't on a throw away account, they wouldn't likely post this way as it's unrealistic for such a low ranked member to be running their mouth in the mafia.

Making it a requirement to be ranked Gangster and above to post in the Streets will hopefully reduce these posts and if someone does still do this they will need to be in a Crew and will 'hopefully' be swiftly dealt with by their CL or District head (instead of them lingering and posting more nonsense under protection).

I can't see any downside to this, but if anyone can please do post your thoughts. :)

So a thug or unhomed gangster doesn't have a voice? You can't just mute someone because they're 'new'. This has been brought up before, and shot down before. I can dig back in the suggestions for it, but I know we've been down this road before.

Some of the most entertaining threads that come along are from these 'new' face, screaming whatever social injustices they have to offer.

Report Post Tip

No muting anyone at all, just delaying their input. I can't see how ranking to Gangster before posting in the Streets is such a tough ask and will do more harm than good, I actually see it doing more good than harm. Reaching Gangster as a rank is peanuts. I bet you could find more examples of thugs posting nonsense then actually contributing productively.

Report Post Tip
I know I'd rather keep people out of the streets bitching after a war, but we can't silence new players because of people who want to complain. Maybe people who've hag previous characters before. But we can't shut down our incoming people like that
Report Post Tip

No-one will be shut down at all. There will just be a requirement to be Gangster before posting in a RP forum. Just like wielding a gun requires you to have certain requirements, I think posting roleplays should have something in place to prevent people posting haphazardly and without the proper instruction.

Report Post Tip

Well, honestly, anyone below Made Man shouldn't have a voice. Because if we're roleplaying as actual gangsters, nobody should give a shit what some low-ranked 2-bit hoodlum is saying.

Report Post Tip

I don't agree either, anybody can speak their minds. The major problem with this would be the new players that like to RP and get involved in the streets which this is what this about, we can't shut them out like that. Now I do understand where you are coming from with the throwaway accounts but honestly if the shit gets too deep and gets out of hand I'm sure the admin team will clean it up and consequences will be had for those that abuse it like they have done in the past. But a big part of this game is to stir shit up, and the best way to do it, is in the streets.

Report Post Tip
I hope this never comes in. From a rp perspective it doesn't make sense anybody can say what they want when they want. If they want to talk trash that is there prerogative. It is down to the userbase to punish them accordingly.

In terms of the game I love when people air their dirty laundry because they have died. Everyone loves to see logs and counter claims. Lastly making someone get to the rank of gangster is pointless. All they have to do is wait 24 hours and they can post away.

Padrino that is true to a point but if you don't want to listen to anyone under made nobody is forcing you to. Just move along to the next speech that has a Made man in it.
Report Post Tip
Nope. Don't agree at all. Some of our best RPers like to get a start on developing their characters right away. Why should a rank dictate whether or not someone can RP? Why should a rank dictate whether or not someone can post in general?

You don't have to read what they post. You can move on. You can ignore it.

This is a role playing game based on forums (Believe it or not) and those forums should be open to anyone that plays regardless of rank.
Report Post Tip

I understand where you're all coming from but I feel you guys are missing the point entirely here. Having the rank requirement to post wont shut anyone out, at all. So let's move beyond this.

The point is that people who are gangster need to be in a crew and those players will need to be schooled on how to post properly, which will draw more attention to families schooling members on properly posting in the streets.

As it stands now, how many families actually give advice and emphasize the importance of properly roleplaying in the RP forums?

Let me ask you all this who find it a negative to put a rank requirement on posting, a simple gangster requirement by the way. What's the difference between allowing a Thug to wield a gun and a Thug to post in the streets? Isn't a roleplay post in a roleplaying game as important as the ability to use one's gun?

We place a shit ton of importance on using a gun properly. We have hitters bibles and hit squad leaders. We have IRC channels around those that use their guns. We have training on how to use a gun properly. And of course we have a rank requirement to be able to even holster one.

Is ones voice in the streets, ones roleplaying post in a roleplaying game, not as important as ones ability to use their gun properly?

This suggestion was always going to be a long shot given the community here, but hopefully you guys see how little we value the posting standards by your responses.

A simple gangster rank requirement to post would put more emphasis on how important it is to be able to post properly, and would lift the standards on the streets as families would then need to have systems in place to school members appropriately. No-one would be silenced, in fact they would be better equipped to post and in turn the game would have better quality roleplays being posted overall as well as restricting these throw away posts.

I appreciate everyone's input, but can't see how this would be so negative as you guys do.

Report Post Tip
How can you even compare guns and posts? Of course teaching someone the do's and don'ts of a gun is more important. In fact, I'd say it is the MOST important.
Report Post Tip

:) And you just confirmed the point I was making.

Report Post Tip
I'm a bit confused here. What point did I exactly confirm?
Report Post Tip

Ah, that people see guns as more important than roleplaying. I think they are both on equal terms, but I may just be the minority.

Report Post Tip
You place far too much importance in teaching someone how to post properly. Unless you're teaching a monkey, saying "stay in character and don't insult people" is just about enough. Shooting is more complex and fucking up has worse consequences, so that's why it's considered more important.
Report Post Tip

That's fair enough. I see it a little differently, as the game is considered a text based roleplaying game and people get shot for stupidity in the streets. We'll just have to agree to disagree :)

Words can be effective, but guns will always be more so.

The only person in this world who has people following their every word, is those with the guns to back up that word. Therefor, the word is only as good as the gun.

Report Post Tip

I would agree 100% if this weren't a text based roleplaying game.

Report Post Tip
It depends on what family you join. In my time here whenever I have lead I have encouraged those in my family to talk in the streets and I have always tried to assist them if they are nervous about it or what some guidance.

Everybody leads differently and will put emphasis on different things you just need to find the right fit.

Back to your opening point. Only allowing gangsters or above to post will do nothing to stop people bitching in the streets it just means they will have to wait 24 hours before they can. The onus should not be on admin but the userbase. Nobody forces people to respond if someone is bitching leave them to it and they will soon stop as they aren't getting the attention they crave.
Report Post Tip

I disagree with this as soon as I start I want to RP as soon as possible. This is taking away something from a couple of users for no reason. Also about those people after wars I don't know about you but I like seeing those angry posts and dirty laundry everytime after a major war we never hear about what happened to the other side. Even though sometimes it's a lot of BS it's entertaining
