i guess its just a wild concept cause I think of a cell phone neccary evil, not a toy for kids to play with. But if you trust your child with one, more power to you man! |

Trust him? in what way? To not break it? He hasn't broken his DS or any of his toys yet. So I doubt that is a problem. To call too much? his phone has been pre payed minutes on it. When it's gone, it's gone. Until next month. To not give his phone nr away to strangers? Really doubt that is going to happen, and he's not listed. Only thing that might happen is that he'll misplace it somewhere. But I can track his phone online, so I'll find it. |

"Considering my phone costs $1200 , it's not that bad." Titus, you are a fool. |

My kid can hang out with anybody he wants. I'm not trying to make him popular. I'm just trying to make sure that option isn't closed just cuz of me. Exactly i would do the same thing, as long as there safe. |

If I pay $1200 for a phone I expect it to have ridiculously fast, easy to use internet, every movie I want, and to go down on me twice a day. For the record. |

I think what Ragnarok meant by trusting your son with his phone is that do you trust your son to not misuse his phone? For example letting his friends use him because he has such a thing and such a young age. Also, to comment on your point of view that you don't want to cut you son off from main stream socialization, I just think thats the worst way to see it. Your child is 6 years old, he doesn't need a phone to socialize with his friends, thats what school is there for. You even have a computer obviously that he can use to talk to his friends for free, and guess what? Thats more acceptable. Did you need a phone at 6 to talk to keep in touch with your friends? Now I don't know if they were invented then or what ever the story is and I don't care frankly but you can't give in to your children, once they know they can get what they want they will take advantage, and learning that from the age of 6 will be hell for you and your girlfriend/wife. Now I know I'm no expert in parenting because I'm not one, but I for one wont make the same moves you have, and I will think twice before doing something like this. I know what you're thinking, its just a phone, why am I getting so worked up on it? I just don't think its setting a good example. There is a lot I want to say about a lot of things but I wont because he's your son and not mine. Sorry that I'm having a go at you, but from my background and point of view, thats a very ridiculous thing to do and I know everyone from my family would agree, (Because I asked). |

My son doesn't get everything he wants. And if/when he misbehaves I threaten to throw away one of his toys. That usually shuts him up quite fast. (Only had to actually throw away a toy once.) So I have no problems handling my son. He only gets stuff when he's been good. And No, he doesn't have his own computer. I think he's too young for that. I sit beside him when he uses the computer. The phone is intended for us to contact him. Not for him to call his friends. He can't read well enough yet. So I've added his closest family to the speeddials on it. And He can stand up for him self just fine. I've taught him to Be nice to everybody and to never hit first. But also to stand up for him self. And finaly. I don't have a girlfriend or a wife. I'm a single parent father. He visits his mother one day a week, and one weekend a month. So I'm doing the best that I can. |

First off, sorry I wasn't aware of the situation with you and his mother. I can't comment on how whether or not you give him everything he wants or not because I'm not there to know. I wasn't talking about having his own computer at 6 either, I was referring to the computer you are using now, he could just use MSN to talk to his friends. Why would you need to contact your son at the age of 6? He shouldn't be out of your sight. He shouldn't be outside on his own or even with a group of his 6 year old friends. Call me old fashioned but they should just be going round each others houses and you shouldn't need to buy him a $300 or so phone to keep in contact, I'm sure his friends parents' have home phones that they can use to ring you and update you. |

"He shouldn't be out of your sight." Single parents need to work, and this is rather extreme. I don't think Titus needs people to apologize for giving their opinion- he put it out there himself for discussion, so I certainly don't feel guilty for dissenting. I suppose my point is this- a real phone is independence. Could this phone call anyone, Titus, or does it only connect to your house and your cell phone? |

if you read the whole post he said his kid has to take a taxi home from school everyday so he wants to be able to know where he is, i think that if you consider the cirsumstances it is acceptable for the kid to have a phone so that his dad can know where he is when he is travelling with strangers to and from school everyday |
