I suppose I would get touchy over this, but I've never seen anyone claim the jail before. Cities? Yes. Crews? Yes. Jail? Never.

Typically, mobsters maintain their family ties even when they "go away for awhile".  Some high profile mob bosses even ran their families from prison through messengers and liasons. When a mobster goes away for awhile, there are usually plenty of other prisoners with ties to their family or even other Made guys. They do not need to form new associations. However, if this exercise will provide you some entertainment, I doubt it will ruffle any feathers. Just don't try pulling rank on me when I'm locked up. We all get set free sooner or later.

Indeed; but don't forget the corollary ~ everyone goes to jail eventually.  It's been my experience that those on the inside tend to have control over those on the outside, not the other way around.  This is especially true as you are far more vulnerable in prison.  No bodyguards or machine guns to protect you inside.  You have your wits and little else and are usually far outnumbered by a population that his lived together there for many, many long, hard years.  Not only are you quite exposed in there; but friends, relatives and associates are at risk and are often targets when "exerting influence" on someone. 

Mind you there haven't been any shankings in our jails in a very long time now...
