You walk up to the crowd gathering around a newsstand Since you all are here I have a few things that need to be said, I don't know if you noticed, but for a few days my office was closed. You don't need to know why, but you do need to know that it is now open again. The paper is still coming out next week and you can still submit your ads. Ads cost $100 a word, and all you have to do is send the money, word count, and the ad to get it into the paper. Also I want to apologize for the lack of quality in last weeks paper, We had to throw something together last minute due to me taking over the job as Editor. (Not writer, not reporter, editor!) Since I have some making up to do and I have been getting more stories than ever I might be posting more than one paper a week, but that is up to all of you...the writers. See you when I see you. |

Quality or no, I did enjoy reading the paper this week, even if it was a tad short. I'd have to disagree with you on the fictional stories things though, in other places I've been, satirical or even completely false stories have generated good feeling among the community, providing they're done in good humour of course. Besides, some would denounce most tabloid journalism as falsification, no? Having said that, you're the Editor, not I. |

Hmm... You do make a good point Trigliani, and with that being I might start to open up to fictional stories. I have not made up my mind just yet, I want to hear if anyone else wishes to have fictional stories added to the paper. It would have to be one hell of a story to make it though, I see fiction as for the streets not the paper. |

| I have always been under the belief that good, bad or indifferent, everyone has their own opinion. I am a fan of fictional stories, when they are needed or when there is something good going on between families. At the same time though, he is the editor and we should be lucky that he actually is giving us a choice in the matter. Do what you want Riley, its your paper, I am pretty sure that no matter what you do, people will still read it. | |

I will however ask you: how and where my opinion becomes "non-constructive" in relation to the question asked by Riley about whether people wanted stories in the newspaper. Thankyou and goodnight. | I wouldn't mind seeing some fictional but In Character stories in the paper. You could call it the Bargain Book Corner or something and have a few stories per week allowed. | |

I would hate to stem anyone's creativity, but I have an idea that, while it may get shot down, I still find very interesting. I'm not sure if anyone is familiar with it, but there is a genre of writing entitled "micro-fiction", in which a yearly contest is held. It is made up not of stories, or short stories... but REALLY short stories: the requirements for micro-fiction is 500 words or less. 500 words is not very much. My mother can barely write a grocery list in 500 words. I can, since "beer" and "nachos" are only two words... but I am admittedly not building a food pyramid of Egyptian proportions. I suggest that stories for the paper, at least initially, exist in micro-fiction form. Stories that are deemed good enough can be published by the editor. Perhaps lots of people will try to cash in, since it's "only" 500 words... maybe a fixed number of stories will only make it? Or only those the editor considers up to form? I think that this may be worth a shot: it prevents the paper from being dominated by fiction, and challenges writers to create in a new and exciting way. PS - You run out of words pretty quick... I'm roughly halfway there... even if this doesn't fly for the paper, I encourage any writers out there to give it a shot! |

I'm not too crazy about adding fiction to the newspaper. It is, after all, a newspaper. If someone wanted to publish a tabloid and print some outlandish stories, that might be acceptable, but our newspaper should be factual, objective reporting. Opinion/Editorials should be the only subjective content. Other ideas could include timepieces from the 30's era. It wouldn't take much effort to find out what happened on this date in 1933, and summarize it. |

I want to thank everyone again for there input. It is good to here what you all think about what should go into the paper and what shouldn't. I like the 500 word story idea , and only one of those would make it into the paper. That way it wont piss off the no fictional story people, but at the same time making all you fictional lovers happy. Those that don't want it in the paper, skim through. |

Thats a good idea I'll remember to put something about that into the next submission guidelines. Would take people writing me letters with good questions though and by the handfull of writers I have, I don't see it happening. |

I have two things that I want to talk about and I'm not going to make another thread. I think that the people who have been reading this one are the ones who deserve a head start anyway before the word spreads around. I will be holding a contest for the next paper. It is called Best article. The good thing about it is that there is a 1 million dollar prize for 1st place, 500k for second place, and 300k for third place. The bad thing about it is that I am the only judge and you have to impress me I will be picking my favorite articles and in that order. There are no quideliness at all so I will be giving you no idea as to what I am looking for. So get out there and start writing, You never know when the contest will be over. ...Spread the word, If you want more people to go up against =) Another thing is that I need a reporter, someoone to write stories and also collect them for me. Not a easy job and doesn't have many rewards (if any). If you want to apply just write me telling me why you should have the job. That is all |
