"Sera.. Sera..."

The little voices began to call her name. Seraphyna had been watching the shadows play on the walls in the room she was in. Hours ago she had turned off the lights as she drank her drink and now the voices were back. Staring at her cup before she swiped it off the table, ensuring it shattered against the wall.

"Ah silence" she muttered to herself.

Getting up she watched the shadows as she got dressed. That had been her last bottle of liquor that she had found a way for a friend to smuggle to her. Now she was out and it was time to search for another form of entertainment that could silence her voices. If she could find something to do with many other people it would be bliss.

Quickly grabbing her black capped sleeve dress off the chair and placing her feet in the flat shoes that would match. One quick glance in the mirror and she was just about ready to go. She brushed the hair out of her face and grabbed her wallet. Soon she would be out and about in the darkened streets.

As she walked the shadows echoed her name with the voices in her head. They were starting to drive her crazy and she turned to mutter to herself. Passing a young lady on the street, Seraphyna gripped her wrist.

"Is there anything going on tonight? Anything at all? Party? Dance?"

She pleaded with the young lady until she had given her some tidbit of information.

"Well there was a rumor that there was a party in the park. Center of the city. You know filled with the rich schmucks we all know."

Releasing the wrist from her grip she smiled politely and went towards the park. She didn't think that anyone would lie about a party even if it was just to get out of her grasp. In fact, Seraphyna didn't think about it much at all until she was a few blocks from the park. Knowing that the rich schmucks in her city tended to have loud parties it was strange that she couldn't hear anything.

"Haha they tricked you, Sera. Now your stuck with us all night." One of the voices mocked her.

"Oh no, I won't." She said before realizing no one else could hear the voice and she was talking to herself. "Dammit!"

Her hands began to shake as she realized how stupid she was, but it was nothing compared to her reaction when she came across an empty park. She swore loudly that a little old lady decided to hit her with her purse for her language. Seraphyna didn't retaliate but she did manage to glare at the lady as her hands clenched into fists.

Spotting a drug dealer close to the nearest alley, Seraphyna headed his way. Surely he would have something that would help her.

"Excuse me, do you happen to have any whiskey or maybe vodka on you?"

"Listen honey, we're out. A guy just bought it a few hours ago and I am waiting on my next shipment. We got some coke?"

"Nah man, not into the hard stuff. Do you know where I can get any?" This time her voice held a slight plea to it.

"Nope, but I heard near the docks they may have a few bottles for sale. Rumor has it anyways."

She nodded towards him and headed for the walk there. It had been some time since she was last at the docks but surely the workers there would remember her, maybe. She was trying to be optimistic but the voices in her head were growing louder and it took everything she had not to reply to them out loud.

As she approached the docks she could feel the nail marks on the palms of her hands from concentrating so hard on acting normal. No one knew that she was slightly crazy by their definition. No one knew the struggle that she had taken to quiet the voices in her head for just a little while. Now here she was on the docks.

Quickly she began questioning the workers as to where she might procure a bottle or two of whiskey. None of them had seen a drop pass their way in weeks. Yet again another rumor was proving to be fruitless. Not quite ready to give up just yet she approached one last sailor.

"Have you got any idea where I can find some liquor?"

"Nope, miss. Have you tried the underground club on Main Street?"

"No but hopefully something will turn up."

"Well that's the place that people have been talking about."

More rumors she thought to herself. Hopefully the third time will work out so she made her way down to main street. She smiled pleasantly at people she crossed paths with but avoiding speaking to them. Her head was a whole different place by now and she was getting more desperate. Breaking into a run she was outside the nightclub in minutes.

She looked like a mess. Her hair was ruined from running down the street. Her dress she had picked at so much before she had taken to clenching her fists that it looked rumpled. She sighed as she ran into the bouncer.

"No admittance."

She looked up at the bouncer. Her smile didn't work to flatter him enough to get him to move so she knew she was an awful mess now. Slumping her shoulders with defeat. This was not her night and all because she listened to some silly rumors that other people had heard.

Frustrated and angry she marched down the street to the nearest speakeasy. She should have just gone here anyways but she had been hoping she wouldn't have to pay the prices for her drinks. A girl could hope there would be other ways since she was trying to save up her money.

"Damn rumors and the people that tell them."

She muttered all the way to the speakeasy. She needed to drown the voices out and why not look crazy while doing it. At least people left her alone when she was walking alone this way.
