Ahhh, the good old days...

N.Y. July 27 1918

Numb3rs walks out of his building, with a big smile on his face. His new born baby brother had just come home from the hospital and things were returning to normal around his house. Numb3rs got his name because he helped his father run a local lottery... His dad made the contacts and Numb3rs picked up and delivered the prizes. Numb3rs' family were kind of known as loaners, but they were very well protected because they knew how to take care of those who looked after them. A crew of teenagers from around the way caught wind of Numb3rs job, and decided to make a move on him. What they did not know, was that Numb3rs always had eyes on him so he never felt unsafe. This particular day, was a very good day for his little project, he had collected several hundred dollars and had one stop left to make before he returned home. His last stop was 1 block from his building, and as he exited the deli, they hit him from the ally. Before he knew it he was laying on the ground, but before they could get in his pockets his protectors had already sprung. Numb3rs being jumped by 3 two bit thugs, turned into 3 thugs being pummeled by 6 wise guys. To add insult to injury, the wise guys made sure that Numb3rs got 1 good swing in on each thug. The lesson of the day was, always stay close to home and know who has your back, because you never know who is around the next corner.

Back in the good ol' days of the '20s.  I was in a small dead beat town with dead beat coppers and the laws were past their prime.  I remembered walking down the narrow street with alleys to play in, casting their dark shadows that you could cut a slice off for yourself.  I passed by a particular alley that one day will make me famous, or rather infamous in that small bungled town.  I passed by that alley to see a copper threating a makeshift street peddler for all his cash, shaking his little stick and threatening the civilian in his raunchy country cajun accent.  I slowly walked towards the scene, quietly, making sure not to make a sound as i approach the copper with his back towards me.  This is going to be easy and quick.  "For the last ti-..."  said the copper for the last time as I drove my knife through the back of his throat.  i grab his pistol as he slowly fell to his knees, gargling, and a stream, of blood shooting out of his throat like a water gun.  "Y-y-you killed him!"  the cajun peddler screamed.  "Shh."  I said as i put my index finger to my lips.  last thing i wanted was for this street urchin to cause a commotion and more of those keystone cops crawling everywhere.  "D-don't hurt me!"  He screamed again.  Cocking my head to the side, i asked "Why not?"  "Because i have a wife and three kids.  i'm a christian as well."  I put my hand over my heart and closed my eyes as if i was touched by the man's scared words of plea.  i pointed my new found gun to his head and finally said, "Sucks to be you."  and the gun fired.  i made a small cache of cash of the peddler and the dead copper, and moved to a larger place to hide.  that memory always bring a smile to my face.
