Sammy stomps out of his Detroit office above Buscetta's Pasta and starts making his way through the crowds of people who just won't shut up. He gets to a point where people can se him and starts waving his hands around as he talks. "Everyone likes reading your material, watching your adventures or having a blather in the streets. But for the love of christ lets keep your parts seperate enough to warrent a new speech, or just make your point all at once. Getting a little bored of this 'To be continued' lark" Finishing his smoke, he stomps it out and shuffles back to his business "Part 2 coming soon." |

Marietta stares as the young man before her speaks. When he is finished she turns to Mister Gato and smiles and nods appreciatively. I too cannot help but echo your sentiments, unfortunately. I'm not slighting the people who tell tales or speeches in the streets, not at all. I believe that we have a lot of good quality in the 'speech' material these days. However, to me it makes more sense to continue one's story from the same spot they began in. It gives me a headache to listen to a man tell his story, then quickly race over to another corned of the same street to tell 'part two' or 'part three', and so on and so forth. It really does leave a bad taste in my mouth. Now me? I've made over hundreds of speeches in the streets (literally), and one thing I know about speeches is that you have to keep your audience engaged. You don't want to speak too long that you put people to sleep, but you don't want to make several short speeches in one day to try and keep things fresh either. My advice to those who are trying to get their voice known on the speech would be either to 'A'- pace yourselves, and not run from street to street shouting parts of your story or to 'B', merely take pauses between breaths. Tell the first part, take the time to gather your thoughts and let others respond, and then continue. You'll be surprised, I'm sure, because people will stop thinking of you as some sort of 'run around shouting artist', and more as a really talented story teller or debater. The choice is ultimately yours, of course, but as an old lady who has seen it all... I'm merely offering my advice! Marietta smiles towards the small crowd, curtsies, then walks on her way in search of illegal alcohol. Well, all alcohol was illegal, really, but you know what she means. |
