Under Siege Started by: Cavell on Aug 28, '09 23:28

Cavell leaned against the truck as he pulled out a cigarette from his pocket. Placing it in his mouth, he flicked his Zippo open and lit it up. He took a drag and slowly exhaled. It was a nice night. Full moon and not a cloud in sight. A slight breeze drifted in. If it wasn't for business here, he would be out with his girl at some fancy dinner place or something.

"Oh well," he thought to himself. Tonight he was busy.

The truck was loaded with 100 kilos of pure cocaine. He was going to make himself a very large profit, after the tribute to his boss. There he waited by the abandoned docks surrounded by empty warehouses. Next to him was Johnny, Cavell's partner. On either side of them were two cars filled with four men each. They were his muscle. Each man carried a Tommy gun and a .45, as well as any other weapon they chose to bring. Just in shouting distance were three more cars hidden in one of the empty warehouse with another four men each. These were his backup men just in case the deal went south. Cavell had no reason to suspect a problem as he had worked with the buyers many times before.

"Better safe than sorry," he thought to himself.

He glanced at his pocket watch. Ten minutes late. He was beginning to get impatient. He hated things not going to schedule. Just as he was about to call the deal off, four pairs of headlights appeared just around the corner of the far warehouse.

"About time," he muttered to Johnny. "I was beginning to think they were about to blow us off."

"Blow you off?" chuckled Johnny. "Everyone knows better than to stand you up."

"Well some people do like to surprise you and push your limits, know what I mean?"

"Very true," replied Johnny. "Now let's get this deal done so we can get the fuck outta here."

Both men watched as the four cars pulled up in front of them. Men piled out of each of the cars and looked around. Satisfied, one man walked to the back door of the first car and opened it. A tall man dressed in a fine Italian suit stepped out and walked towards them.

"Cavell. Johnny. My two favorite businessmen. Good to see you," he said as he grasped each of their hands.

"Good to see you as well, Thomas. Want to check the stuff? It's right over here."

"Well why not," he chuckled. "You never were one for small talk. Always straight to business." He smiled as he headed over to the back of the truck. He lifted the tarp and grabbed a bag of the white powder. Pulling a knife out of his pocket, he made a small slit in the packet, scooped some out with his knife and tasted it. He smiled at Cavell and motioned for his men to start loading up the cocaine.

"You always got the good stuff man. Always a pleasure doing business with you."

"Glad you think so," Cavell replied. "Now you got the money?"

"Of course I do." Thomas motioned to another man who brought over two suitcases. He placed them down and opened them both up. Inside was packed full of crisp, clean one hundred dollar bills.

"It's all there. You can count if you'd like."

"That won't be necessary. I don't wanna spend any more time here than I have to," Cavell said as he handed the suitcases to Johnny. Johnny walked to the car and placed them in the backseat. Cavell watched as the man transferred the cocaine from truck to car. He lit up another cigarette, impatient that it was taking so long. As he took a drag from his cigarette, bright lights lit up the dock. Flashing lights of police cars came barreling out from behind warehouse. A voice over a loudspeaker commanded them to surrender.

"This is the police. You are surrounded," the voice on the loudspeaker commanded. "Put down your weapons, step away from the vehicles and put your hands in the air."

Cavell quickly pulled his .45 out and put it to Thomas's head.

"What the fuck's this?" he yelled. "You set me up?"

"Wasn't me," Thomas replied. "I was thinking the same thing about you."

"Well fuck. How the hell are we gonna get out of this mess? Johnny, get ready for a gun fight. What a fucking mess."

Cavell ran to the truck to take cover. His men leaped out of the car and took cover behind it. Thomas' men did the same. Cavell could only hope that his men that had been hiding in the warehouse had not been discovered and that they would come help out as well.

"Come out with your hands up and no one will get hurt," the voice rang out again.

"Goddammitt," Cavell cursed. "Where the fuck is that guy? I'm already sick of hearing him."

He searched the line of police until he found the man with the speaker. He rested his gun on the hood of the car and took aim. Breathing carefully, he attempted to get a sight picture of the cop that was speaking. It was going to be a hard shot, but Cavell was confident he could make it. Slowly he squeezed the trigger. The gun went off and, after a second, the police officer he was aiming at dropped to the ground. His fellow officers rushed to his aid, but it was no use. He had been killed instantly.

Then all hell broke loose...

To be continued.
