I watch them go by, one by one. Some had grim faces riddled with the frustration of work, walking briskly on the bustling sidewalk. The smell of humid rotten sewage wafted above the grates as I heard the metal clanking noise while feet shuffled over it. Then I saw him. Ahh, the young account. Not paying attention, barely getting hit by an uncoming car as he walked across the street looking aimless. The first thing I noticed was his shoes. Soft plain brown loafers. His dressed shirt was carefully starched and pressed complimenting his tailored slacks. A plain black leather briefcase. It's always the plain ones that carry the most. His new gold watch sealed the deal. My eyes zoomed in on his bulging wallet protruding out of his back pocket. Perfect. " Please sir!," I called out limping towards him.." I just sprained my heel on this grate! Could you please let me borrow your shoulders for a second to lead me to my car at the next block?" I stumbled a little dropping my pretend broken heel from my hand as I stood one leg barefoot. " Oh yes..of course..," he stammered in a geeky monotone voice, " You allright miss?" " Oh it hurts so much," I moaned. " Thank you so much for your time, I didn't know who to turn to." As I gave my patented smile, this time adding a few drops of desperation and weakness. I picked my outfits well. Nothing said conservative better then a knee length pleated skirt, and a quarter sleeve length blouse with just a hint of silk transparency. He timidly yet eagerly allowed me to place my arms around his shoulders as a I limped with him down the sidewalk. Limping slowly allowed me to get to know him better. As we got to the corner, I picked a car. " Right here is my car sir, thank you so much for all your help, " I batted my eyelashes profusely. "Oh sure..ahem..it was no problem at all!" He walks off looking back on occasion to see if I'm okay. I grinned to myself clutching his fat wallet in my palm. Underneath the car, I grabbed my sneakers put them on and jogged happily across the street towards the incoming crowd. Hmm, time to get some lunch.. |

A nice twist on the personal methods of an everyday crime. Very creatively done. |
