I pulled up to George Washington Elementary, my car turning into their large parking lot. I left my pistol under the seat. I wouldn't need it in a school, surely not. My son stood on the stairs going into the school, waiting for me to come to him. I walked up to him and ruffled his hair. "Ready to go home, son?" I asked. "Sure, Dad," said Joseph. We went walking back to the car, along the concrete pathway that lead from the stairs. A black car pulled up before the path's starting point, next to the driveway. One of the windows rolled down, and I acted as soon as I saw the barrel of the gun. "Joey, get down!" I yelled, diving at him as the bullets started to fly. Joey gave a yell in pain as I realized he had gotten hit. I pulled him over behind a planter and took the tiny gun that I had hidden in my sock. I aimed over and fired the two shots, smiling with satisfaction as I heard one cuss. My attention flew back to Joey as I heard the car drive away. He was bleeding in his chest. "Joey, stay with me, don't give up," I said frantically. I turned my attention to one of the teachers. "Don't just stand there, call an ambulance!" "But...what about the-" she started. "Call a fucking ambulance!" I roared. "Joey, come on, stay with me..." TO BE CONTINUED... |

PART TWO. I sat in the hospital room, smoking a cigarette. Joey lay in the hospital bed, wires connected all over him, unconscious. I put my cigarette into the ashtray and took a long drink from my pocket flask. A cop knocked on the door, and came in. The cop was dressed in a full uniform, with a pistol holstered at his side. I took my cigarette and took a puff. "Excuse me, are you the man called 'Fever'?" asked the cop. I looked up at him over my cigarette. "Why are you here?" I demanded in a quiet voice. "We want to offer your son some protection. Sgt. Myers told me to come down here to offer two officers for such a cause," explained the cop. "I don't want a cop watching my kid. I hired a few detectives to come down here and help me watch. They are licensed to carry firearms," I said, my voice still quiet. "I don't want a civilian gunfight in this hospital!" yelled the cop. "Get out." My bloodshot eyes met his. "No, you cannot remove me from this property, you have no authority," said the cop. I put my cigarette in the ashtray and stood up. "I have more authority than you, you fool," I said, more to myself. "Get out of my sight." "Is that a threat?" asked the officer angrily. The door bust open. A man led two others into the room. I stepped closer to the cop, until we were face-to-face. He put a hand on his gun. "I do not want to hurt you, but if I find you or any other Fed anywhere within a hundred feet of my son, if one of your guys so much as sneezes wrong, I will kill you. Get out of my fucking sight," I said in a quiet, angry voice. The cop looked at me funny, but turned on his heel and pushed his way past the three men. Their leader looked at him as the door closed, and then approached me. "Fever, are you okay?" asked the man. "Yeah, Mike, I'm fine. That bastard thought the Feds should be involved. He's wrong," I said, as I went to look out the windows. "Well, don't worry. The cops can only arrest you, and you know Kates will be raising hell if you do get arrested," said Mike Capone, the leader of the new guys. I only nodded. My attention was focused on a black car that pulled up outside the hospital. "Fuck," I said. "They're coming. TO BE CONTINUED... |

PART THREE. Mike and his boys pulled their guns. I took a drink from my flask and pulled mine. I jumped as the phone rang. I moved over and answered it. "Hello?" I asked in a tense voice. "Fever, it's Kates. Get out of there, now. A few of my boys saw the car on the way," said a woman on the other end of the line. "Sorry, boss, but they're already here," I said quickly. "Damn. Put Mike on," she said. I did as she told, and handed the phone to Mike. He agreed and disagreed for a minute, cussed, and hung up. "Kates wants us back at HQ, soon as possible," he said. "What about Joey?" I demanded. "There's more guys already on the way. They'll stand watch over Joseph while we get back to headquarters," explained Mike. "Damn," I said, but I followed them as they hurried out the door. Mike went first, followed by the two other guys and myself. We started off in a quick walk to one of the elevators. Behind me, I heard a noise. I turned around and saw three armed men standing there, wearing thick hats. Each hat had a red star. "Fuck, let's go!" I said. We took off running to the elevator, with bullets flying around us. We got inside the elevator, with bullets still hitting around us. Mike yelled out as the door closed. I looked down and saw a small stream of blood running down his pant leg. "Fuck, Mike!" I said, as the elevator started it's slow descent. TO BE CONTINUED... |

"But...what about the-" she started. Obviously Googlez, she was refering to the math quiz. You can't just interrupt someone by complaining about a shot kid in the middle of taking a test. GAWD. The nerve of some people. :b munches on popcorn and listens intently to more of the story. |

Part four is currently in the works. Until then, enjoy this teaser: I climbed out of my car, taking my friend with me. She agreed to go in the other door, and left me to my thoughts. I put on my hat and walked into the warehouse. |

PART FOUR. Mike had been hit right above the knee, taking his ability to walk. We couldn't leave a man behind, not to them bastards, so we got my truck. I tied my handkerchief around his leg to stop the bleeding, and we took off flying down the road to HQ. I looked above the seat I was ducked behind and saw a car speeding right along behind us. "Fuck," I said. "Come on, we'll never make it if we don't get to the compound!" I noticed that there was a large group of people standing outside the HQ as we approached. My heart jumped to my throat, because I recognized several of the men. They were Marietta's bodyguards, and they were raising the small 'drawbridge' to stop our pursuers from chasing us into the compound. "Sir, we ain't gonna make it!" yelled the driver. "Shut the fuck up! I could make that jump if I was driving, and I'm wounded!" roared Mike. "Floor it!" I could hear the motor straining as the car sped up. I looked, and saw the RPM needle going towards the red. My heart beat slowly, as adrenaline slowed time, or so it seemed. The car flew up the half of the bridge as it raised, and I could feel the car leave the surface. I gripped on tight to the seat as we flew over. With a loud bang, we landed on the other side. The motor overheated with the increased RPM, and the car crashed into one of the trees. The driver and another guy in front grabbed Mike and took him inside. I rushed inside to find Marietta looking out the window. A black car floated down the little river that we'd dug for protection. |

I sat in the rear passenger's seat of one of Marietta's cars, looking out of the window at the bleak, rain-soaked Detroit roads. I could see my reflection in the window. I cursed myself inwardly as I noticed the tear-tracks on my face. I hated crying, but I couldn't stop myself. It came before I could stop it. "Fever, you haven't asked us where we're going," said Marietta, sitting in the seat next to me. I turned to look at her. "No, ma'am, I haven't." "We are taking my private plane to Los Angeles. Premier has offered to shelter us for a while," said Marietta. "I can't meet Godfather Premier like this!" I said in a shocked voice. "I understand, Fever. That's why I have arranged a meeting for you, if you can make it. One of the LA people are going to meet you at this address," said the Godmother, and she handed me a piece of paper. "You'll recognize them when they walk in." I nodded my thanks and looked out the window. In an hour we were in the air. After a long flight, we finally landed at the airport, where Premier's men had chosen to meet us there. The pilot that was with them moved the plane into Pemier's private hangar. Marietta, Kates, and several bodyguards went off to Premier's compound. I took a taxi to the address I had. The taxi pulled up outside a small coffee shop in the West Side, near the beach. I took a position in the corner and was tempted to empty my pocket flask into the cup, but I just poured a little inside. I took a drink and started to wait. I hated waiting, especially in my situation. It only served to make me angrier and sadder. I heard a small bell open, over the door. I looked up, and saw a familiar face walk through the door. The woman did a quick scan of the room before she noticed me. She smiled and walked over. "Ellie, I'm glad that it was you that Marietta got me to meet. I'm sorry you have to see me like this," I said in a quiet voice as I stood up. "As am I. I would have gotten a flight out to Detroit as soon as I heard the development, about Joey...dying," she started. Her words felt like hot knives piercing my body. "Premier told me to stay, that you were coming with Marietta. I would have come, but Premier told me not to. I thought about it, and I thought of the pain you must be in." I hugged her, in a tight embrace. When I did let go, we sat down and the waitress brought over an espresso. I figured that Ellie must hang around here alot. "I am telling you, I know who did it. You remember the story I told you about the Russians? It was them. They have tried twice to get revenge on me, and both times wounded me. I would have tried to go after them, to hunt down every one of those bastards and rip their throats out...but Marietta held me back. She wouldn't let me go, she even put a tail on me to make sure I didn't kill every one of them." I sighed. I heard the bell ring again, and noticed someone walking towards me. I instinctively reached for my pocket and I drew the pistol in my coat. Ellie must have noticed me tense up, because she spun around. A man in a black cap stood before me. "Vell, if it isn't Fever. It is my very displeasure to have to deliver this message to vou. My captain vonts to meet vith vou and Marietta, to negotiate a peace," said the man. "I cannot discuss what Marietta will do, but I will try to meet with you. Where?" I asked. "The varehouse on the South Side, at midnight tomorrow night. Be there, or ve vill kill everybody vou are associated with," said the Russian. He put his hand on Ellie's shoulder."Except for this von. Tomorrow, at midnight." TO BE CONTINUED... |
