Over the next several days, New York will be instating a new policy for recruitment within the city which was inspired by the debate that has raged about member whoring. It's one of those issues that gets everyone lathered up for reasons I can't really comprehend, other than the fact that apparently we act like it's 5 years ago when it is brought up. Nevertheless considering this is such a hot button issue I decided along with my Underboss, Deimne, that we should make a public New York policy so we wouldn't have to waste time with such trivial debates in the future.

It was a tough policy to create, but while falling asleep the other night it hit me out of the blue. Of course I almost forgot about it after waking up the next morning as I had failed to write it down anywhere. From this moment forward we will be instating a mixture of a member whoring friendly/sponsor-associate mandated recruitment policy. That sounds confusing and contradictory but allow me to explain.

If a crew in New York has less than 20 members they can use ANY method they see fit to fill up those slots. They can member whore, wait for invite requests, conduct interviews, or tie a dollar bill to a string and lure some unsuspecting thug in the mood to make a quick buck into their HQ. There is a catch though. After their crew charter reads 20 members (including the Crewleader, Right Hand Man, and Left Hand Man), the leader will not be allowed to invite anyone else directly. They will be required to send any and all invite requests they receive to sponsors in their family to handle. There are two exceptions. 1) If the crew numbers drop to anything below 20 they can still use any method they want to get back to 20. 2) If another leader dies, the New York Crewleader is allowed to invite homeless, former members directly.

This way crews could fill quickly and there has to be accountability if a leader decides they want to member whore, because if they don't train people in the skillset it takes to be a Made Man and then sponsor, they don't grow. As I've said in private, I don't think member whoring makes a bad crewleader, and some people excel at teaching and guiding others regardless of how they contact them.

So as for an example, Deimne's family has reached its 20, so from here on out they have to rely on a sponsor to teach associates and bring them into the fold of the family.

*Claps* Actually...that...that seems rather fair. This way it seems to give the families that may be struggling to make a presence the ability to do what they need to do to shore up individual strength while forcing the bigger families to be more selective in the way they do business. Hats off to you Godfather Thomas, it appears you have struck a very good compromise between the two sides.

This idea I do actually enjoy quite a bit. Everyone knows I'm old fashioned but always willing for new things. In a way this is a mix because now the associates are really getting the full benefit. I wish you the best of luck as well as your captains with this new policy. I feel we will see many new and talented mafioso populate are streets soon enough.

I have to say I've never seen such a compromise proposed, and it's a damn good thing. For once someone's come up with a way to incorporate both sides of the issue. Now, this won't make the die-hards happy, but who really cares about that anyway? It's an honest response to a heated topic, and I think you've made a good choice.

Lets just hope other cities follow suite, Godfather Rourke.

Although I am not a resident of New York. I think this is a great idea. It is in the middle for those of us who are extreme left compared to those who are extreme right. If you know what I mean. Smiles But yes, I think this is a great idea.

I think this is a fantastic idea.  Thank you for the exception for new families.  I will inform all of my crew and intend to carry this out to the letter.

Great idea, Sir. The concept behind the sponsors bringing in recruits should be the norm. I found that associates of sponsor's usually stick around somewhat longer when they've had a close partnership and mentoring. I hope this move keeps New York full and.. fantastic!

I think this is an excellent idea for your city going forward. I am eager to see how things play out for New York through this policy and as always, I look forward to continued business negotiations with the city.

It is nice to see that New York is making a stance and taking action on this topic. However, it is an issue that will never go away and will always be brought to the forefront of discussion on inviting new members. If leaders send out random invites while under 20 members, people will still call them member whores etc.  and will argue against what is being implemented here.

Although, I don't have a better suggestion, I still like that fact that something is being done.

In a perfect world, every family would go through the sponsors to get associates and then initiate them into the family at Made Man.

In a perfect world, every crew leader, right hand man and left hand man would not speak to any lowlife schmuck that's just come off the boat.

In a perfect world, all families would work as they should do and we wouldn't need such a ruling as this in New York or any city.

This is not a perfect world and for this world, this idea is simply brilliant. Well done Godfather Rourke.
