Greetings one and all. I'd like to take some time out of you busy schedule to discuss something which I have always felt strongly about and I'd like to open it up to a sensible and reasonable debate.

I myself have always felt strongly about what people take for granted now days. While my bloodline has not been in this life of ours for nearly as long as some of the other people around here I still feel that the attitude of some people leave much to be desired. The issue id like to bring up is the question 'Why?'

I believe it boils down to people thinking they deserve to know anything at all about anything. You are soldiers, you follow orders... my self included. People like Godfather Thomas Rourke or Godmother Marietta are who they are because they took power and are strong enough to keep it, they call the shots, they decide on the course of action. If I got a mail from my own Godfather saying fly to a city and do whatever I would do it. Not ask why before hand, because I have no right to know, he is my bosses bosses boss if he asks me to do something and it is in my power I would drop what I was doing and do it. The same applies to an order given by Don Brandon or Don Deimne.

I believe the same attitude should apply to explanations. Too often the leaders take important time out from their lives to come to the streets and explain why this and that has happened. They shouldn't have to do that, people shouldn't have to know. One person could decide to wipe out every other city and not have to explain why they did it, they did so and they came out on top. They have no one else to answer to...least of all gangsters and thugs who's parents were killed in the war. IF they choose to explain why an action was taken it is for the benefit of all of us. The person decided to enlighten us as to why they did something, this I hope in turn would help to educate the younger members on these shores as to the inner workings and reasoning of the leaders and to how things are run at the top of the totem pole. In conclusion id like to say that sure closure is a nice thing but in the end we are gangsters and asking why shouldn't factor into it.

Calibre.. I must say that sometimes even though yes the leaders do take time out of their busy schedule to make explanations sometimes it helps ease those that have survived through the troubled times. Plus it does teach younger generations what and why..

Now as far as to taking things for granted.. Some do but those that say they don't can, they not sometimes look back and think.. didn't they get something as well from their ancestors or well tbh expect it.. You can't say what people expect or earn tbh if you are not in the family and even those that are in the family sometimes might not realize what all someone does to earn what they have been given.

Calibre, with your attitude you would have fit in very well in the old days. Today's mobster has a sense of false entitlement. They have their heads lodged too far up their rectums to see that in this line of business, there are superiors and subordinates, and almost everyone is a subordinate to someone.

Back in the old days, it was not uncommon for a Boss to send a soldier to his death. People did not rely on protection shots during wars the way they do today. Especially in the case of a rogue mafioso, a Boss might say "I need you to fly to NY and kill so-and-so". Knowing this was very dangerous and that the odds of dying were better than 50%, you never saw a moment of hesitation.

Many of today's mobsters see us all as equals. Perhaps they spend too much time drinking coffee with the upper echelon, so they see themselves as peers. Mobsters need to remember that they work for a Boss, that our hierarchy is different from legitimate businesses in that insubordination can be punished by death, that higher ranks are superior to lower ranks, that your Boss is superior to you, and that I am better than all of you.

Once these simple concepts are understood by all, this thing of ours might begin to resemble the idealism that should be taken for granted as part of our business.

    I learned this concept early on in my career as a mafioso. Not because I was some little smartass who decided if I was going to follow the order or not. but out of respect, You follow orders because you had the guts to introduce yourself to your Don, he or she saw something in you, even if you didn't see it in yourself, and they decided that it might be beneficial to take you under their wing. It is only right that you follow their orders without question, because you owe them your success and it is the least that you can do for them. If it wasn't for this generous Don, You'd still be out dumpster diving, or waiting in the three block long bread line that is so common in these rough times.

Don Butt_Ox I agreed with you on almost everything however there is one small snippet of your statement I will have to respectfully disagree with.

People did not rely on protection shots during wars the way they do today.

I remember reading through some of the history books, hearing stories from people who's great great ancestors lived through those times, hell, even reading the stories and hearing the tales of my own ancestors when they spoke of protection shots. Every time there was a major rogue crewleader who reared his ugly head the people in the highest levels of power scrambled to receive a protection shot so they could survive. On the onset of every war, especially during some of the most turbulent times, my own great great great grandfather had to line up protection shots for his crewleader and his right hand to make sure they survived the initial onslaught. The rest of your statement is on the money, back then people didn't question their orders and if you were told to go into the middle of a warzone knowing you may die then goddamit you walked into the middle of that firefight, you took your shot and you waited for the inevitable payback.

 I remember not to long ago, I was working for my former boss, I had just woke up and his boss came to me...

"Fly home your shot's there.."

Literally 30 seconds later.

"Done... Mind me asking whats going on?"

I think these sort of things prove your worth and loyalty, Dispite finding out later on I was rather fond of the guy in coffee shops I had not known his true identiy, I'm still glad I did it. Theres not much you can do about it except take orders from your boss.

Right, -X-, the qualifying portion of my statement was "the way they do today". I did not say that no one used them back then.

While back then the CL and RHM did take some protection shots, especially in the case of a rogue, these days everyone down to a lowly Earner relies on protection shots during a war. That was unheard of in those days.
