I would also advise anyone who uses the same password on other sites to think about changing them, if stjimmy were to contact you at some points on an anon name and figure out stuff about you he may try to interfere with other things you do.

What I find most worrying is that you are storing unencrypted passwords and that the reason is to check dupes. Surely there are better ways to check. I haven't seen a system with unencrypted passwords for a long time...

We store them encrypted, the reason certain high level assistants are allowed to view them unencrypted is to allow us to keep you as secure as possible. Fridge has this level of account, or had this level at the time of this incident.

You could, but I stand by it, since we're the ones that are trusted to see it, we are also the ones entrusted to let you know when your passwords are too easy to be used.

Could we not introduce a password system akin to most retail sites where your password must contain both letters and numbers? This would make the need for anyone to view passwords unencrypted for security redundant.

With respect Anubis, it's easy enough to write up a chunk of code to check passwords at sign-up to ensure they contain any combo of characters. I know what you are saying, but there are fool proof methods out there.

You're right. I'm an idiot for thinking that only the HIGHEST tier of administrators on this game could see my password. I'll make sure not to make assumptions about anything in the future. Thank you for showing me the light, for now I know that I am an idiot for trying to simplify my life by .005% and using one of my three rotating passwords as my game log-in.

Well, not netbanking but social networking sites because I view this partly as a social networking site as well. Maybe I am an idiot for assuming that administrator's would do as good a job keeping information secure as myspace, facebook etc but just -  'didn't log off, other people who used it in the room' and then people thinking that, 'was drunk' as an excuse is totally reasonable seems a bit suprising, everyone saying, 'oh its st jimmys fault' is kind of missing the point, it wasn't st jimmy's responsibility, we didn't entrust our accounts to StJimmy, we entrusted it to the administration team. When the security services leave a laptop on a train as they are prone to do and it gets nicked, you dont go 'bloody thieves' you quite rightly say 'stupid security services' and its the same thing here.

To be fair I haven't got a problem with this, I wasn't affected and I'm not having a go at fridge revenge but lets not pretend this wasn't the fuck up that it was or say that it was all stjimmy (I barely know the guy and certainly don't suck his 'piece')

Think is that if you see a hundred bucks on the ground you take it if someone leaves there phone you take it and if you see a note book you read it any one would be tempted to exsplore the might of are admins intensions good r bad dose not matter but i mean its not the admins fault either ever dose mistakes i know i forget my phone keys and work id all the time and half time i forget my pass words lol but i mean it was an honest mistake he just needs to be more careful what ever his reason has for fridge it is jus human to abuse powers or let the curiosity get to you i mean come on if an almighty wizard left his spell book out your gonna do something because you want to see what somethings like that you never were able to do and will never get another chance.
