Gaius had been steaming most of the day, he got a tongue lashing the night before from his Godfather for misinterpreting orders... Not the first mistake he's made, but it damn sure felt like it. He came from his Godfather's family, being his left hand, like his father before him, and his before him. All had served proudly, and died willingly. It all started on a rather dull Sunday afternnon, Gaius had awoken early, taken himself to church, making sure to give the Priest a little extra at the end of the service for a few prayers. After all, one could use as many prayers as one could get in this line of work eh? But now... he was attending a funeral, with the same priest, Gaius would have to pay the man a visit about those so called prayers he had been paying for. A friend had died for making a mistake and Gaius felt as if he was next, for no man is perfect. We all know coming into this life that someday we will die, and we all feel the pain of losing a brother, and a friend. What Gaius didn't understand was the way an immortal stepped into human shoe's and gave orders wherever it suited him. Don Gaius was an angry man, but held his temper in check until hearing from his Godfather. He had learned the lessons of his past relatives, and controlled his temper accordingly. At last the man he called Godfather had come, surrounded by what appeared to be a battalion of BodyGuards, always looking after his Godfather. He had caught one of them sleeping awhile back, and relieved the man of his job, and his life. Hiring another in his stead from his own much smaller pool of guards. Godfather... Gaius cried almost in tears at the news of his fallen friend. Why? "Thats not for you to know Don Gaius." exclaimed the Godfather "He was blood, a member of our family... Gaius could feel his pulse pumping, he had always bee direct with his Godfather, speaking his mind providing it was in private and not in some coffee shop as many had done in the past, no Gaius had learned from there mistakes, thankfully. At that moment the Godfather took Gaius by the shoulder and ushered him along, leaving the bodyguards behind with a swift flick of his hand. Gaius instictfully became aware that both he and his Godfather were unprotected and began reaching for his gun to hold in the palm of his hand. The Godfather merely smiled and said No my young Don... motioning toward a bench some 50 feet away, as the Bodyguards encircled the area, his own intermingled with the Godfather's. He died because he didn't make one mistake, he made many. From the day he hit these shores we protected him, looked after him, and trained him more so then any other. He didn't make a single mistake that cost him his life, he made many. Gaius looked at his Godfather as tears began to stroll down his face... he wiped them and began to speak. Never once have I cried for another, never once have I cried for a fallen friend, knowing that you would sort it, and avenge our fallen comrade. But even after you have explain the circumstance, I cannot understand. Is that not why we are here? To protect our blood? Is that not why we work so hard, to defend our own? The Godfather sighed and looked at Gaius with his knowing eyes, No Don Gaius, thats not why we are here. We are here to lead, because if there was no leadership there would be bitter tormoil, lawlessness in the streets. Gangsters shooting at whomever they wimmed at that moment because they felt like taking a shot. Un-Protected individuals new to these shores would start falling, numbering more then the stars in the skys. How would it look if I continued to allow one of my most trusted to continue acting in that way? How would it look if I continued to allow it to happen in my city? We would be targets for all the other cities, and would surely fall. This was the first time Gaius had heard his Godfather speak of politics, Gaius had never been good at them, its the reason he wouldn't ever leave, since before the time Premier was a Godfather he had protected Gaius's bloodline, taught them everything about this way of life... and just as he began to think he knew it all. Something else like this cropped up, showing him that indeed, he did not know everything. |

Godfathers are very wise. That is how they achieved the greatness that they have. We all have much to learn from them. While we play checkers, they're playing chess. Always thinking ahead. |

Ell thinks back on losing her friend, her family and sends up a little prayer for him. Among angels and great men, indeed. She thanks the stars for the Godfather, the man who ushered her into this great family and guided her always, and she sends up little prayers for her Don, her friend who she watches grow each day and become his own wise man. "I was sad to see him go but glad that others have learned from his actions. We are nothing without the chance to learn, to grow, to become better," she whispers. "Thank you, my wise men. Thank you always,". |

"My regrets, boss. Unfortunately, sometimes we have to make ugly decisions. That's probably why I'll never be on top, I'm not too great at dealing wit those." Michael leaves his boss a bottle to drink from and heads out with a slight nod. |
