I second MichaelWesten's comment. I'm a Brit who also pays respect to all those that died that day. I would also like to say Awesome is an asshole ( if you ain't got anything respectful to say, dont say fuck all ) and that we Brits aren't all like him.

Important and significant events must be remembered not for the sake of remembering them, but for making sure that tragedies like this never happen again. 

In other words, we remember it so that the past can be past.

Some of us do take 9/11 very seriously, And it is something that will always be remembered not just another day.

Ignorance is bliss. If you have nothing respectful to say kindly shut the fuck up before you make a mistake in what you say. 9/11 will always be remembered especially by the generation that is up and coming. I personally don't care if you're English, Irish, German, Jamaican, Japanese or Chinese this is to remember those that have passed and to honor those that are fighting to make it everyday better.

I remember that day very well. While I was serving in the Army, the XO ordered me to run to Burger King to get him and the other HQ employees some breakfast. (Me and him were cool, we'd always play chess together in his office) I come back with bags of croissantwichs and coffee, and everyone was eerily silent listening to the radio and to the lounge TV. 

I thought they were joking at first when they told me that the Trade Center had been bombed, but then I realized they were serious. :( Everything definitely changed on post after that.

I used the word "bombed" loosely, because that's the only description I could put it as other then "attacked."

i give support to all the men and women fight for us today i used to be one of them i know what they have to go through i also give my respect and condolences to those who lost thier lives fighting in both NY and overseas

I don't think anyone here is trying to belittle the tragic nature or extreme sadness surrounding 9/11 - I for one remember the Arndale Bombing in Manchester with abject horror and anguish, and the loss of life that day was comparatively little to the destruction wreaked on 9/11.

However, I do think some people are being too quick to overreact to statements that were not made to cause offence or argument, and that in itself has caused offence and argument.
