The Omerta Journal, The Word on the world. Started by: Jezabel on Sep 11, '09 12:41

*Grabbing a few garbage can lids, Jezabel slammed them together, causing many people to stop and stare as if at a mad woman.*

Laddies and gentle lasses, I call for your ear, I look to impress on you the tiding I speak of.

*Jez tosses the lids back to their proper places and steps forward, letting her body language talk of earnest words.*

For a long length of time now we've gone without a proper paper, though some have been seen and many have come and faded into nothing more, we haven't seen a paper on our streets in many a moon turn that lasted more then long enough.

Many fear this isn't a bad thing, but a quieting of mouths in a time when muscle and silence are a welcome thing, but I know many yearn to know why so and so died or what lies behind many a choice our wise leaders have made and many mouths have bitterly scorned because they were blind to the back ground workings of an execution??

What I mean to say is I'm opening the doors for a news paper I wish to start and I welcome the words of any who wish to submit to The Omerta Journal. All interested will be reviewed.

Quick Fact run:

  • Advertising is 5k per inch (counted from when your typing on a thread, if the white box is more then an inch long, it'll be 10k.) Money will go towards printing cost, the lottery and other prizes, including paying for articles.
  • No, the first few papers will NOT be paying out, though later I plan to reward articles I think are especially good, I do not wish this to be a paper of forced words, Write because you want to be part of something great and be rewarded, not because there's cash in it please.
  • Will there be contest? Yes! There will be a weekly lottery, as well as a weekly quiz. The lottery tickets will cost 5k each and the pay out will be announced weekly.
  • What if you don't want to be on staff? We will take weekly submissions, not all will be used, but some will.

Any other questions can be brought to my ears, I'll be happy to answer them, either as a reply here, or via mail.

Thank you for your time, you can stop staring at me now... Really... you can.

*Winks and walks off, heading back into an old warehouse.*

3) Honor the Streets by minding your tongue.

The Streets are sacred. The Streets are the life of our world. This is where you will shine or die. Think before you speak. Know your place, and mind your tongue. Respect is given where respect is shown.

I may be new, but doesn't the idea of a newspaper seem like it wouln't fit amongst 1920's and 1930's mobsters who tried to do everything behind the scenes? It also seems like it would encourage people to ignore the Mafia Bible's Third Rule- as copied above. I also believe that a person who has a problem with one of their leader's decisions and can't ask their leader why they did something sounds like they are unable to fit into character, and doesn't know their place.

That may have come off as a little rude and I apologize, but it I believe it is still a valid point you haven't considered.

I'm pretty sure in recent history that newspapers have been a welcome feature to our world, most notably through the efforts of the Godmother of Detroit.

The idea behind the paper isn't to "snitch" on your leader, it's a forum to voice your opinion in public without fear of reprecussion. The paper will not print "PedroRourke touches me in my private place" (sorry Riddle-, you'll have to fight that battle alone), it will print articles of value and interest to our world, some of which may be controversial and as such, the writer may wish to remain anonymous.

I welcome the efforts of anyone who wants to publish a newspaper on current events and opinion, best of luck Jezabel, you have my full backing and access to my secret sex dungeon.

Guess I've gotta post this as a OOC, sorry.

jmbrust87,Valid point, Yes, a paper seems a little bit like snitching, but in truth, All that will be printed is common knowledge, Do you really think I'm going to post stuff about who killed who if its not commonly known? Would be a little suicidal, That, nah, this is a paper about goings on in this world.

The Streets is a great place to post a paper ABOUT the RP part of the game, if this was all about the real world, Sure, wrong place for this, but this is about the goings on in game and will be purely in character, and therefore, perfectly placed in the streets.

Spend some time looking back threw the streets, there are MANY exsamples of great newspapers posted here.

Jezabel, can you tell me what the Detroit Chronicle is then? I would love to know, since you don't seem to think it's a 'proper paper'. A month doesn't seem like a long length of time to me.

Report Post Tip

I think it was perhaps a poor choice of words, Godfather. Anyone who has been around for awhile can attest to the fact that the Detroit Chronicle is probably the best newspaper ever produced within MafiaReturns.

That aside to jmbrust87, I would suggest that you do not translate the Mafia Bible too literally. Remember where you are and what it is first and foremost. Some truths about reality have to be foregone in order for this place to succeed. I wouldn't shoot down this publication before it has even begun on that basis.

My feeling would be to let Jezabel attempt to regularly produce a publication and see if she can cope with the difficulties entailed within that.

Godmother Aurora, you are of course correct, the Detroit Chronicle is a work of great skill, both informative and entertaining. Such is it's success that I believe Tallien's thoughts to be accurate, it was a poor choice of words on behalf of Jezabel, one which I attempted to subtly divert in stating that newspapers do attract success, most notably through the efforts of the Godmother of Detroit.

Report Post Tip

Yes, the Detroit Chronicle is a good paper, I'm sorry for my poor choice of words, I meant no disrespect, but looking back over the past month, I haven't seen many printings of it, Mayhaps I'm blind, but all in all, I haven't seen very many good papers reach these streets much in the past months and plan to change that. Bad choice of words, yes, and I'm sorry, But it doesn't change the fact that I'm starting a paper without the business laid on godfather/mothers shoulders and plan to see where it takes me.

Report Post Tip

I like the idea of having another regular newspaper in the streets. Yes, we already have an amazing one "The Detroit Chronicle", but as we all know the editor in chief -Godmother Marietta- is a very busy which can be proven by her last announcements in the streets of having Don Pedro as her under Boss, so we can't expect much of her.
In my humble point of View, having another paper would compensate the unfortunate late editions of the Chronicle which would still keep people up to date with the world of crimes' news.
