Ok so I have a question, knowing the folks around here I assume someone may be able to help me with this little problem. My computer use to be the main computer around here connected directly to the dsl modem so I was Mr.Speeeeeeed! Well recently I have gotten cable and the modem is in the other room on another computer. So Im running a wireless belkin usb piece for my internet in here and instead of racking up 6000kb/sec Im getting between 500-2500kb/s(and tons of disconnections). I was wondering if it would be quicker to run ethernet through a router ? After all wireless is a bit slow on other devices so it seem only logical for it to be slower here too :P

Its possible. The usb adapter that you have may only be G-type, meaning that its made for a close range, average speed connection.  The same idea applies to your router.  I imagine a direct connection would be a bit faster but its not a guarantee. It would though  resolve the issue of you disconnecting.

It is indeed a G Type. There are times its pushing the same speed as the other computer but thats usually only after I connect and then its slow riding time. Thanks I may get a better usb adapter or just try the router.

A straight connection is faster than a wireless one, in all of todays wireless types...At least the last time I checked

Hardwire will always be faster the only limit on hardwire is how fast your connection actually is. With wireless it is limited and anything like a microwave or just big chunk of metal can interfere with it. I use wifi and still pull down 20 megs but then again my shit is awesome :)
