Embarking on a new career Started by: WillHayes on Sep 15, '09 16:07

He had lost everything. His job, his house on the beach, his girl, and now finally, his self-respect. He had no cash, no love, and nobody so he did what he had to do. He picked up his basket full of flyers and began walking the streets. Deimne had promised to may him a nickle for every hundred he passed out, so he knew he'd have a long day to make that dollar he needed for his fix. There was a Cantina in the big apple calling his name, and the Dr Pepper Float he craved cost a dollar. So he got to work. It was a hot day, and visions of the float danced through his head.

Hey sir, take a flyer please. Flyer anyone. Take the damn flyer. Hey you, don't toss it on the ground. Pick that up!

His day wasn't going well. Nobody would take the damn flyers. How was he going to make his dollar? He sighed, sat down for a minute and read the flyer. Advertised on the flyer were businesses in New York, and some in Chicago. They all sounded wonderful. Will remembered the days when businesses were countless, but plain. They had no class, and no creativity. These businesses had flair. They were extremely creative and offered a wide variedy of products and services. It read:

Come to these businesses and receive 10% off your purchases. (Limit 1 purchase per dozen customers.)

Chicago's Candy Creations

Gotta love the alliteration, Will thought to himself. And Candy to boot? Will was excited. But, he wiped the saliva from his chin and continued to read.

Antiquarian Bookstore and Cafe

Will knew of this place. It was amazing, and the owner was a gentleman and a scholar. Everyone in this community should visit this place, he thought.

And Come visit New York's finest establishments:

Monkey Cage Casino

Will didn't think he'd visit the casino. He'd lost countless dollars in casinos, and strip joints for that matter, but that was beside the point.

Just 4 laffs Comedy Club

Bait and Tackle

Now Will had to stop and laugh at this one. What the heck was a bait and tackle store doing in the middle of New York City. But he left it at that and continued...

Trolley Stoppe Soda Shoppe

What a creative name, Will thought. And Will loved his soda, so he was sure to visit that shop on occasion.

And introducing the Carbonated Cantina: a new experience in candy and carbonated beverages.

Will was desperately trying to make his dollar so he could get to the Carbonated Cantina, the home of his beloved Dr Pepper Float. And so he went about his day and continued to pass out the flyers.

Good afternoon ladies and gentlemen. I'm just here trying to make a buck. If you could take my flyers, I'd really appreciate it. They advertise some wonderful businesses in the cities. Well, at least in Chicago and New York. I didn't mean to leave any cities out. I'm just a messenger. I'm just handing out the flyers.

I have to say - there are any number of great new and old businesses in the cities. Take some time to go and visit them. I'm happy to report there has been a rebirth of creativity while I've been away. So, support the efforts of those who have taken the time and effort to put together businesses for your benefit. Some of them are absolutely amazing. Others are works in progress, but can be improved with your efforts.

Will watched as people began to press on the business names, as if they were expecting to magically appear at the business they were pushing on.

Come on! If you can't find these businesses in Chicago or New York, then you have some serious issues. (i.e. No, I have not linked the establishments to this flyer. If you can't find them, you should seriously consider going back to school 'cause you, my friend, gots sum lernin 2 du.)

Will opened up his Will to english dictionary to give the community some insight.

In Will language, may  means pay.

And, in Will language, variedy means variety.

Thank you and go about your day.  I obviously got some more lurnin 2 du.

Great work Will. You're well on your way to earning that $1.

Our business activities always need support. Even with the quality and brilliance that we see bringing our cities to light, at times... without customers, they slowly fade away. If we want to continue the way of life we have become so familiar with, our business activities must appear to be above board at all times and provide us the cover they were develped for. We didn't just start them up to do work and stuff.

Aiden walking down the sidewalk glaring at the bums littering the pavement. Aiden comes across an extremely well dressed bum handing out flyers. Aiden appraoches this bum.

"GET A JOB!!! oh Hello Will, handing out flyers? That is grunt work for a Made Man. Maybe if you do a dance and song ill give you a dollar. Also if you add my businesses to those flyers of yours ill give you money for both of the business advertisements."

Favor just happened to be walking down the avenue seeing an occasion flyer blow towards her. Then she saw another flyer twirling in the ground, which multiplied to a rolling legion of several more. As the wind picked up, the flyers blew around in a large funnel around her. Irritated, she caught one in the air.

"Hmm...interesting Antiquarian Bookstore and Cafe." Favor crumpled the flyer in her palm into the tightess ball she could muster for a paper toss. She then threw it in the air, for she dearly loved to test distance based off the compression of matter.  Then she thought about bullets. Ahh Physics, how she dearly loved it.

Favor fondly plays with  her gun at it's holster and walks off heading towards the bookstore.

After half-heartedly smiling at his boss, he directed his attention at Aiden momentarily.  He took a pen out of his pocket, penciled in "Come to Aiden's Pizzeria when in Chicago" on one of the flyers and handed it to Aiden.

Here you go, Aiden.  A brand new flyer with Chicago's finest pizzeria listed prominently on it's face.

He laughed momentarily and continued about his business of flinging flyers about when he noticed a swirl of flyers pestering Favor.  He approached to apologize, but retreated quickly when he saw her twirling her gun.  She looked like she was itching for a target and Will wasn't interested in becoming one.  Instead, he dropped the basket and walked away, refusing to acknowledge anything to do with the flyers.

Aiden giggled uncontrollably  like a little girl. He walked away from Will thinking about his recent "triumph" over him. Then he started to freak out he needed to get to chicago before the masses got there. Aiden screamed out as he was running towards the airport.

"Thank you Will!"
