Calleux jump into the carriage and cleared his throat, takes a swig from the whiskey. - I must clear up one thing, I and many others are not from here and have problems with language and grammar. calleux check out the group. and then continues. - Should we put up with people barking at us for writing with some grammar errors? Calleux takes a sip of the whiskey. -Will I be killed for this text, let this be. Calleux jump down and walk away. |

Thanks for taking the time to come out here and make the effort, Calleux. Sometimes we forget that not all of us are from these parts. I'm sure I've been an offender in the past, but am vigilant in distinguishing between those who don't speak the language very well and those who can't put a coherent thought together. I appreciate all those who come out here with something important to say. I don't appreciate those who come with one or two word replies, or just straight ridiculousness. So, I think your speech was just fine, and hopefully will shed some light on one of many problems we have in this community. What's the saying: Those in glass houses shouldn't throw stones? Something like that. |

Calleux, I have to admit dude, that I am one that gets frustrated at the break down in communication sometimes. I'm not proud of it dude, but its the way us Americans are, generally speaking, we are selfish people...we think that everyone should speak our language... Me...I have only been to the United States and Australia..oh, and some little weird Island that many thought was Fiji..that turned out to NOT be Fiji...unless Fiji has Polar Bears... but thats not important. My Real name is Hugo Reyes...but do you think I know a lick of Spanish? I might be able to hold my own in a conversation but to call me fluent...I am a far cry. You are already doing a good thing just making the attempt, and truthfully, your english is better than a lot of folks that speak it ONLY. My only advise to you would be to advise those you are speaking to that English isn't your first language and to ask them to bear with you as you are trying. Who knows, you might come across someone that will be willing to help with constructive criticism and help you speak the language more efficiently. If you continue to get some slack from members of the community, I am sure your Boss will be willing to give them a talking to. After all thats what he is here for, to make money and be sure his family prospers. If you are disgruntled you are no good to anyone, specially your Boss and City. |

Everyone is selfish, Even the swedish one, But we want to learn us do the same as everyone else beacuse we dont want to be after, i hope that people try to understand what "we" who cant spell english are saying instead of think that we are stupid, English is a hard lang. to understand and write correct, if one word in a sentence is wrong, Maybe the whole sentece gonna be wrong, Just try to understand, if u dont understand write that, and i gonna try to explain what i mean. |

Calleux, in my opinion, anyone that makes a true effort, much like you have, should never be scolded in any public forum. If it is obvious that English is not your first language, just say so and you should be praised for making the best attempt that you possibly can. And if you ever need help or someone to look over something before you post, look me up. Much as Hurley said, many of us that have a better grasp on the language SHOULD be willing to help. Cheers to you for the effort. |

Calleux, I agree very much with what WillHayes said. One thing is to make grammar mistakes and another is to not make sense. It's not difficult to see when you are actually putting together some nice thoughts but just struggling with the language. Kind of like here. It's short, but there truly is some thought, or at least heart, put into what you said here. There are a few examples of people who are not from these shores but make the superb effort to sound as good as possible. I have one example that sticks out in my mind above the rest but since she's not picking up the phone I won't say her name in this conversation without her consent. A question I have related to this is the following: With so many people offering to proofread speeches and stories, why are people with low level of proficiency in the language not taking advantage of that? |

Calleux, I completely understand where you are coming from. English is not my first language either, I use it well but I do make my fair share of spelling mistakes and sometimes my phrases could have better structure. I read the streets and the business district often and many of our members are very talented and poetic writers. I try to learn from them and hopefully I get better as time goes on. You will find that there are more people who understand than those who will put you down for this. Keep on writing Calleux! |

You don't need to be an epic speaker to appear in the streets. My bloodline has long loved these streets, even when the overall quality is wanting. A passion for the streets is one of the things I value most in other mafioso, as well as my own family. But if your English is so fractured that, in speaking, you seem either confused or stupid then you probably shouldn't be out here. And even if you can be understood due to a lot of work on the part of the listener, you should be prepared for a potential detriment in that regard as well. Many in our line of work come here from other countries and have spoken other languages. I hate to break it to you- you're in America now. Americans speak English. If you can't conduct your business in the streets without being understood, you shouldn't be here- practice with your family until you reach that point THEN come out in public. |

Hello Calleux! Like yourself, i am swede. I just want to tell you to give it some time. You do not seem to be that bad at english so i think you will get a hang of it pretty soon. Also, do not care much about coming to the streets making your voice heard. You will get there too. At first, take your time to get to know the rules around here and make friends. Even with bad english you can get friends. When talking to them you will learn the english language more. When you think you have enough confidence in the english language, only then should you make yourself heard. If you do so they will understand you more. Just be patient, in time you will be an excellent speaker :) Btw, i dont think you are bad at all when it comes to the english language. So just go for it :) //W |

I'm sorry to break up the lovefest here, but you're not a writer- you're a mafioso. If you want to be a storyteller, I suggest you go into that line of work instead. If you'd like assistance with the language I would be happy to help you if you send me a mail. I do not, however, know of ANY language in which it's proper to shout out punctuation. |

Mike stands up "Not everyone has proper grammar but as long as you put the effort in people should not bark at you.Just about everyone in this world writes stories of thier past and everyone of those stories are not perfect. No one is perfect. So nobody has a right to yell at you for not writing perfectly." Mike walks away |

I am with it. I think everyone should remember that there is no telling where the guy on the other end is from. I also think that is a good sign for the game. |
