As Tommy woke in the morning, amidst the burnt buildings and sirens that were still ringing through the air, he sat up on the side of his bed. Not able to tell if he'd actually slept but rather that he had just simply been there, laying down. He couldn't remember. Time had felt as if it had played a trick on him. In one aspect he felt as if time had all but stood still just hours before. In another, he felt as if time had past him by while he was frozen and everything else moved on.

It wasn't easy for him, nor did he think it easy for anyone who was involved in the events. Many loved ones, brothers and sisters now lay slain. Tommy sat idle on the bedside, his blank stare towards the floor. He seemingly questioned without thought whether he should put his feet to ground or simply fall back into the coma his body felt itself already in.

Blood had been shed, people he loved had been lost and he knew questions would be asked. He, himself asked questions and answered them repeatedly as he convinced his feet to finally meet the ground. The events played over and over again in his mind as he stood to his feet and made his way to his the window of the parlor.

Placing his forehead against the window and looking out at the bodies being carted off by ambulance and the smoke still rising from the rooftops of businesses, Tommy begins to sob.

"The questions are going to come, are you ready for them? You know even though you did what you did to preserve they're going to hate you, right?"

Tommy interrogated himself as if his brain had split in to two halves and he was standing outside his body.

"I did what I did to save the city, to be able to ensure the ashes were swept up and lives would be saved! I only had the city at heart!"

"But those lives you hoped to save are gone, you walked away from your dearest friend so that you could ensure a city would grow and flourish? You left him to die!"

"I DID NOT LEAVE HIM TO DIE!"

Tommy punches his hand through a nearby wooden table as he falls to his hands and knees sobbing.

"I didn't leave him to die, the writing was on the wall. I could have stood and died or did what was best for the city. I didn't know so many would lose their lives, I had no part in it. Technical was like a brother to me.. I know somewhere deep inside he knows my intentions of growing this city he helped get back to its feet is noble. I know he wouldn't blame me for taking its best interest".

Tommy rolled to his back and stared at the ceiling as his mind cast images of the night before upon it as if watching one of the moving pictures at the theater.

"They're going to blame you, they're going to look at you as a coward and trash your name!"

"I don't care what they say! I know what I did! I know why I did it! I don't have to answer to anyone but myself!"

"Can you though? Can you look yourself in the mirror day after day and say you did the right thing? That you made the right choice? Tell me Tommy, can you?"

Tommy sat up and bashed his hands through the remains of the wooden table as he shook in anger.

"I can! And do you know why!? Because this city has flourished since we came over from Chicago and I've helped build it, brick by brick! I will continue to build this city, I will continue to drive it towards greatness and I will not look back in anger! This thing of ours is a business, first and foremost. Sometimes people get hurt, sometimes people don't like the business decisions but I invested myself into Detroit and it was a loss I could not take! I loved Technical, he was my brother. Senka, she was my partner in crime. The deal went bad though and I got out! I made a business decision do the investment would not be lost! I will pour everything I have to ensure that business is not interrupted within the city and I will make Technical proud that the city he helped make new again will thrive long after he's gone!"

Tommy stopped shaking as his anger and pain turned once more to tears as he covered his eyes and looked back towards the window once more.

"I may be dead on the inside but on the outside, I'm alive. There's a city that needs me, there's business to continue and buildings to rebuild. It starts now".

Wiping away the last tear from his eye, Tommy gathers himself to his feet and heads to his closet to find his favorite suit. Dressing himself in the mirror he looks deep within as he puts the finishing touches by straightening his tie.

"It's time to go back to work. There's money to be made and a city to rebuild. No time for looking back. It's time to move ahead."

With a final inspection of his suit, Tommy closes the door to his closet and heads out the door to begin his day.
