So similar and yet so different. That’s what had so often been said about Neveah and her twin sister. They had been born minutes apart but Neveah’s birth had been smooth while Lexie’s difficult. Growing up, Lexie was a regular tomboy, always out in the streets. Neveah remembered the way she was bathed and scrubbed when she’d get home. At least, until their mother had passed.

Even their reactions to that had been different. Neveah had tried to be the lady, taking her mother’s place, keeping the home. Lexie had just…disappeared. Their father had tried to keep her under control, at first. But he was too lost in his own despair and Lexie too independent.

The past couple months, Lexie had started to come around again. She looked…different. She had cleaned herself up, and even started bringing by gifts, food, whatever they needed. Eventually, Neveah had started to ask questions. Lexie was hesitant at first, but if the girls had anything in common is was their inability to keep secrets from one another. And so eventually Lexie had spilled all about this new life she was living, the new family she had linked with. It was just like Lexie, to find happiness by doing everything she wasn’t supposed to be doing.

Neveah had been interested, if only for Lexie’s sake, but had never imagined she would end up where she was now. Sitting in the room her sister had been renting, trying to put the pieces together. Her sister was dead and everything that was once hers was now Neveah’s. It would be simple to go through her belongings and go back home but being here made her want more. She wanted to know what sort of life Lexie had lived, why she found this world so enticing. And, most importantly, why she was killed.

So, Neveah changed into what seemed a more appropriate outfit and headed out into the streets.
