Extra, Extra! Read all about it! Started by: Ronin on Oct 01, '15 05:25

October had arrived in Philadelphia, and the air had a cold bite to it already. As was life in this city, it didn't bother the locals much. The streets were packed with morning commuters heading into their bland jobs at office buildings throughout the city. For the most part. One might not notice it in the hustle and bustle of the city, but there was something missing from this picture. You wouldn't notice it if you weren't paying attention; it was one of those things you really had to have an eye out for. There were a select few of this morning crowd that were headed towards something else. Men and women in sharply tailored suits, with bleary eyes and a quick pace to their stroll. Yet none of them seemed to be carrying a briefcase and the morning paper, like all the other stiffs.

That's because for these people, there was no need for briefcases. They kept everything they needed for their job in their heads and in their pockets. And there was no paper for these people, as mainstream media had long since crushed the competition of low level papers in America. For many years, the paper was huge for people of "this lifestyle."

Long ago, such famous journalistic works as The Mafia Gazette and The Chuckle Knuckle graced our fine back alleys and speakeasies. But fine works such as these had long since died out. Why had it happened? No one really knew. Perhaps it was pressure on free speech from those running this way of life. Or maybe people just bored of reading about things that didn't really matter to them. Or more likely still, maybe the writers just lost all motivation, or had nothing interesting to write about. It's one of those things the underworld could never really figure out.

But something was on the horizon. On street corners all across the six cities, young boys were handing out fliers. And they were catching the eye of mafioso passerby.

COMING SOON
To a news stand near you!

The Cosa Nostra Times
A paper for the mafioso, by mafiosi.

We feel that the time has come for a paper to be re-established in the "underworld." We will make our best attempt to report the news as honestly and as unbiased as possible. The object of this paper will not be to interview random Crew Leaders about what kind of tea they prefer, or who they last had sexual intercourse with. Nor will it be a "spoof" paper entirely intended to make one giggle. We want to cover all sides of a story, not just the harsh truth, not just the lighter side of things: A mix of both worlds. We intend to attempt to rival the past papers of this world, and perhaps even give the "legitimate" journalists a run for their money.

Writers/Reporters Wanted

A core group of writers has been established and have already begun working on Issue One. However, more input and content will always be welcomed. If interested, please send your resume to: G.L. Ronin, 404 Franklin St, Philadelphia, PA 19006. Please include some previous written works with your resume.

Thomas heard some buzz about a new newspaper. Learning more about it, he made a decision...

While out on business Paddington sees a tiny human run up to him. Looking at the tiny human confused he smiles. The tiny human backs a way a little looking a little frightened before handing him a flyer and running off.

Weird, he seemed scared. Its almost like he has never seen a bear before?

Looking down at the flyer Paddington smiles. A brand new newspaper. Something to finally entertain the masses.

Ronin I look forward to the work you will bring forward. I have complete faith that this will be the best news paper on the streets. I am more than excited to read the first edition.

"Apparently the telegram didn't arrive the way it should have..." Thomas wrote it again and resent it:

"The attached blank sheet of paper is both my experience and my past work. I am however available to ghost write some stuff if you need help"

Can't wait to read! I love to see what the populace comes up with!

Ladies and gentlemen

The first issue is slated for release on Friday, October 9th at the latest. There is a chance it could be released sooner, but in order to give us sufficient time to finish up the editing and formatting of the paper, I'm giving us a little cushion.

From what I have so far, I think you will be pleased. I'm really looking forward to it, and I hope to see you at the news stand!

Henri had spent the past few hours digging through City Council records, looking for mention of papers that were mob affiliated. They did a good job of burying them, and why wouldn't they? It's not like they could label the drawer "Organized Crime Syndicate Weekly". Instead, they had stacks and stacks of Newspapers in a box labeled "Suspected scams". The sheet on top of the stack of Newspapers stated they couldn't prove anything, as it was all hearsay. Henri was no expert in law, but he was pretty sure some of the content was damnable. Then again, he was quite certain these particular City "Officials" were on the payroll of many Dons, so it didn't matter. Four more potential days until there would be another Mafia sponsored Paper, and Henri could hardly wait.
