Good evening WiseGuys.  I sure hope you'll all listen to this lecture, because you need it.  I'm here to offer you this one-time lecture free of cost in order to ensure you can and should make the transition to made man.

I am well aware that it's become mandatory some places that you all come out here and make a "speech" or several speeches in order to qualify to become a made man.  That really doesn't mean you should come out here and rehash old topics, debate issues that aren't really debatable, or come out here just for the purpose of coming out here. 

And for those of you who are deciding whether or not a WiseGuy has made the requisite "speech" - expect more.  Set the bar higher.  Don't settle for just anything.  Godfathers/mothers, city heads, and other leaders have decided that having some street presence is important to becoming part of a family.  Don't cheapen that requirement by giving a passing grade to any WiseGuy who makes the least effort possible. 

WiseGuys - you have been given a gift.  A gift to develop your voice.  Don't squandor that gift by coming out here with absolutely nothing to say and stumbling on some street speech that you think needs to be rehashed yet again.  Think about what to say.  Engage the crowd; give us something to talk about and a higher opinion of you.  You all have it in you.  Nobody cares about your spelling or grammar.  What we care about is that you can come up with an original thought in your head, or even if you can't, that you can take a thought that's already been debated, and find a unique twist.  

So, that's your lecture for the day.  Take your time.  Develop your voice, and think about what to say.  Remember what I said - you have an opportunity to make a name for yourself.  It might mean that you may not make made man in minimum time possible.  But really, how important is that to you?

I agree 100%. It seems like there is a rush to be made. People are creating speeches that have no real direction or logic and ive also seen people looking through old manuscript's which in turn brings them back to the streets. The response to them is normally 3 word's, if even that. Im not one to alight peoples mistakes and i hardly ever respond to a speech unless i have something to add but i have seen a lot of forgettable speech's and a hell of a lot of 3 word responses.

Again it just seems rushed. So i agree with the advice of WillHayes, take your time.

I agree, I am a wise guy if you can help me out then please do anybody. I am coming up with three new stories could use advice. I already came up with the basic story just need ideas to become a great story.

All i can is proof read. Check for errors. Try reading it yourself after about an hour and see if it still has that spark in it. I know i cant give too much advice as i myself have only shared a handful of stories but i would never post something the second i complete it. Review, proof read then post

Aye dark_tiger all this world can do is help, but we need to see what you are working with in private to help you along with some good stories.

So send someone you know a mobmail so they can proof read what you have so far and they can help you from there.  If you want I can help you on a couple stories you have been brainstorming on, just shoot me a mail with all the stuff in it :)

As a wise guy AngelicDemon pauses when she hears the lecture begin. Standing along the side of the crowd she takes in all that is being said. As the lecture concludes she rises and leaves with something to think about.

Hmmm seems to me that that can, and has, been done at almost any 'lecture'. AngelicDemon, sitting down, nodding and then standing up might earn you kudos if you do it once, do it more than once and people might start to believe you're the awkward one at the party, just here to make up the numbers.

to be fair, stories have a place - I can read a good book on my own time, i prefer to see arguments that will affect how we live here. stories come second, people stepping in to say that they agree with whatever happened come a very long third - thats my list of posts in hierarchical order, I reckon its the same for most.
