Can we all stop applauding things that really aren't that great? It kind of takes away from those who do put intelligence and effort and, yes, grammar into their work.

well I think statement 1 answers the question about whether my comment was justified. To whether it was rude, yes it was rude but I'd rather feelings were hurt than the standards of this thing of ours were lowered to avoid tears. As to whether I've done anything that deserves applaud over this - cut out the two last words and I've done plenty, keep them in and the questions a bit hysterical.

I can answer a few of these questions.  First of all, I hate it when people nitpick, but I have to say that I think it's funny that one of your "statements" is a question.

It is improper to encourage the garbage that litters these streets each day.  Polite suggestions like my offers to help these people improve their speeches go ignored, so it may take a little tough love to discourage people from spouting off anything that comes to mind, and to encourage them to think their input through.

I believe that it is nonsense like this that discourages people from bringing quality discussion to the streets.  Why bother when your hard work will be tossed into the flood of waste?  My late brother took a long time to think through the one speech that he made on the streets.  He actually had two of his trusted friends read over it for him, and waited nearly a day before taking it to the public, and it was overlooked--it received one response. 

It's not enough to say "Oh, well he is new to the country, and blah blah," because it's not as if there aren't plenty of us out here with nothing better to do than help.  I sit around most of the day just waiting to receive a telegram from someone.  I am more than happy to assist someone who wants my help.  I'm sure that each and every sponsored gangster has a slew of crew members anxious to assist in any way possible, and I'm positive that a crew leader does not want his crew being represented in such an ignorant way in public.  Many crews have a person assigned to guide those who want to take their voice to the streets.

Though I'm not sure it is deserved, I'd like to renew my offer to help anyone who wishes to make a name for themselves in the streets, because most of you need it, and I am yet to have someone take me up on this offer.  I've been cringing all day wading through the painfully inadequate refuse that some deem fit for the public eye.

So, to answer your question, Tommy, I think a little rudeness is needed to show some that not just any old thing will do around here.  The quality of our streets is lacking.

I think thats fair enough and I have the same problem - the point is that its easy to reply to garbage, you either just nod and say 'well done' or you disagree, causing an endless debate about how rude you are or how you should leave if you don't like it. Long nuanced statements go ignored because they're more difficult to handle and if they are replied to its usually on the one tiny point that people think they can disagree on and not look like an idiot. Making the other 10 paragraphs a waste of time.

The thing thats really interesting here is...does quality get the attetion or does name. Im definantly not saying  this is quality, but i do see alot that fall into same catagory that gets to much attention. So i wanna twist the queastion into this, does low quality draw in low quality as is proposed in this thread or does people mindlessly respond to names rather than quality thereby lowering the bar as is argued in this this thread
