Standing outside of the house Gills knew exactly what he needed to do. The don had said in no uncertain terms the fate of this house; to be engulfed in the flames as the inhabitants slept, to barricade the doors first, and kidnap any escapees for torture. That this house would make a perfect example. What wasn't said was that from outside you can see the crib. You can watch the baby sleeping, as well as it's older siblings in the same room, no more than maybe eight years older, all sleeping, unaware that outside a strange man stood, a flaming bottle in his hand. But what's a man to do? It's his don, family is his life, if you forsake family you forsake life. Whatever the decision, Gills reasons, the doors should still be barricaded, just in case, so he's prepared for if one of them wakes up. There isn't much outside to barricade with, he must make do with a small rocking chair and a bench from outside a nearby store, the rest will be gun work if he does this....but can he? Can one man gun down innocents....are they still a man? How does one decide this? To pick the side of family or family. The molotov cocktail in his hand is warm, the cloth almost burned down to the bottleneck, a decision must be made. An hour later Gills is back in his apartment, sitting in his favorite chair, a rocking chair, much like the one from the house. He can see the fires reflected off the window pane |
