GingerAle, why would I discuss my family's practices, what ever they may be, to everyone I meet?

As far as "lauding" another family, I merely stated an example to back up a point.

Report Post Tip

had you going there.

why you so desperate for names anyways?

I wonder what Paul_Vidi thinks of his member lauding the good works of another family in another city. Is that an insult by omission of his own family's practices?

I'm just happy that someone from another city took time out of their busy schedule to comment on the fantastic policies of one of our families. It takes a big man to admit he's wrong, but a bigger man to come out and reiterate the fact that Detroit is fairly kickass.

On a semi-related note, I'd like to thank both Deimne and brandon_heat of New York for their family practices. They are both excellent to deal with in business matters, pleasant in the coffeeshops, and strong examples of good role models for younger mafiosos in our world today.

Rourke tips his cap politely to the two gentlemen.

Frankly DivineGod, it's happened rather recently and proved to be feather that broke the camels back.

Now you may notice that some Family's have changed their recruiting policy in order to represent the newer way of doing things.

Don Kates's crewis a very good example of such...

Actually, you vaguely referenced a policy of another family without giving any inclination to what this 'newer' way of doing things is. Odd that you would have intimate knowledge of a familiy's practices other than your own. I really wouldn't expect you to come out and detail your family's policies, but I do find it odd that you'd come out and reference another family in another city and what they do.

If you were in my family, regardless of which policies you speak, I'd wonder why you concerned yourself with the inner workings of another regime's recruiting practices.

And if I were in Kates family, I'd wonder why you were out here being their spokesperson and telling of your crew workings and would frankly feel disrespected.

As you're neither, I just find it odd why you'd take it upon yourself to come out and laud Kates for how they run their business. If you should be commenting on the good works of anyone, shouldn't it be your own family?

GingerAle, the policy of the Renaissance is clearly displayed in the street for all mobsters to see.

PedroRourke hands GingerAle a map with directions to the location of "A New Policy For The Renaissance."

Report Post Tip

Ah...I didn't do that did I? I thought it was well known enough not to be mention again...

Newer as in the usage of Sponsors and Associates to a greater degree than in the past.

As far as how Don Kates runs here family...I would have no intimate knowledge of the inner workings of her recruiting practices. What I've mention is common knowledge to anyone that happens to listen in on the streets now and then.

The last I checked, Xenophobia was not a issue here. To continue along, this was a discussion started by DivineGod that I believe is purely academic.

Therefore, I gave a response in the same manner.

Ms. Gingerale, I do believe this discussion would benefit from some cool logic.

It is not odd that Mr. Quirinius has knowledge of my family's recruiting practices, since I announced them here in the streets in an attempt to further utilize the sponsor/associate system that is available in our world. As Mr. Quirinius is an avid and attentive reader of the streets, I see no impropriety in his reference.

If there is an issue at hand, perhaps it is whether I made the correct move in bringing that announcement to the streets. I chose to do so to encourage others to involve this nearly ignored feature of our world. I am certainly not the only one to do so- I've heard of others who take advantage of this sponsor/associate relationship. But as I was the most public example of someone who had largely ceased direct recruiting myself, I again see no issue with Mr. Quirinius's statements.

I also see no issue in complimenting someone from another city. While I'd be concerned if someone from another city started a nonstop praise parade for a single out-of-towner, what's wrong with expressing admiration? There have certainly been ideas and speeches from other Godfathers or Godmothers that I've praised, which I don't believe has any negative effect to the highest esteem that I hold for Godmother Marietta.

Report Post Tip

I realize that Pedro, but I just don't see why a non member of Kates family is out being their spokesperson in a speech about member whoring. Kates family doesn't need the PR, since they've already taken care of their own. My original comment still stands. If this newer way of doing things is so wonderful as to merit a comment from Quirinus about it, then is it an insult by omission that his own family is not doing it, or is he alluding that his own family practices the old ways, hounding newer members in an effort to grab all they can?

I just wondered what his own family felt, is all.

Report Post Tip

I have to say that I have always prided myself on how picky I am about who I allow into our organization.

I will admit that I might start a conversation with an unsponsored person - but I would never invite a person without at least a little idea of their personality and their practices. I do not claim to know people well before I invite them - but I know them well enough to know that they are not a complete idiot.

I also don't really have 'requirements' that people must meet to become an associate, I judge each person on an individual basis. I'm not gonna go into specifics on this as it's judged completely on an individual basis, and to be honest I don't want the entire world knowing how I choose suitable candidates.

But yeah - what I'm saying is that I agree with the original comment made here. What I hate most is when I see someone who has only been here a minute or two with a family.

Report Post Tip

Admiration for a public policy does not have to conflict with your own organizations policies. Also, the fact that an incorrect assumption that he was pointing toward his on families rules was given a similar response as to using another families policy as an example amuses me.

In the issue of member whoring, the issue is that it is done under a "packing them in" mentality under the disguise of assisting those who are new to this world. This reflects poorly on the organization that practices it, and effects the interaction other leaders will have with that organization. If your organization makes poor decisions regarding recruiting, how will other leaders know what to expect regarding other matters?

There used to be a time in this world of ours when you had to prove yourself worthy of joining a family.  A letter had to be written to the Crew Leader offering your services giving them an insight into what you would bring to their family and what kind of asset you would be.  I've seen Crews go to war for pimping, so I agree, why are we wrapping new comers up in cotton wool, when most of us who had ancestors here had to learn, and earn their way into a family.

Report Post Tip

Well, I know that when I first started the game...I had a guy ask me to join in the first 5 minutes...even offered cash....I did not join because I think that just cheapened the whole process

Report Post Tip

When the family that i am associated with talked to me we had a long conversation of what they expected and also took the time to get to know me

Report Post Tip

i agree with you, but things change man

i under stnad whre fur coming from hte mob is a rough life style. but even real. mobs helps one another

Report Post Tip

this topic has come up more then a number of times thats why some cities are switching their way of how to recruit...the most common way is to go to one of their mademen and show your worth

Report Post Tip

I agree with ShadowLucker.Show their worth to their mademan.

Hmm, this is a tricky one. There's a realism/idealism trade-off, with strength-in-numbers arguments on one hand and value-promotion on the other. So from a hardline realist perspective, crews would be making themselves unnecessarily vulnerable by not actively recruiting new members if other crews are - they'll fall behind in terms of man- and fire-power. Yet on the other hand, we all want our crews to be made up of the very best mafiosi - the loyal, the dedicated, the respectful and so on.

I think if the lower ranks of our society made better hitmen, then the realist's position would be stronger. If new recruits could drop made men with their new guns, then those with restrictive recruitment policies would die off quickly. But that's not (generally) the case, so the idealists win out - in a relatively peaceful time like the present, crews have the luxury of being able to be selective, and so they should be.

Report Post Tip

As another newby I would also add that it is really difficult to know how each family operates and works together unless you actually join it - so with multiple invites it's an impossible situation. Asking questions to try and discover these facts are fine but can sometimes be interpreted as rude - when someone has just invited you to join and you are almost in a situation where you are saying...why should I, what does your family offer etc etc. Not sure I\ve explained that very well but hope you get the jist!
