| To use or not to use, that is the question! | Started by: McFinnigan on Nov 24, '07 18:09 |

*McFinnigan Stops on a buisy street corner and climbs atop a over turned wood crate. Clearing His throat he makes a speech. I've noticed something about this world of ours. And that is the over zealous use of our guns. I'll be walking down the street and some wise guy will come running from a dark alley and Wack a gangster right in front of me. Now you may say, "Hey now McFinnigan, that is an everyday occurance in our world, so whats the big deal?". The big deal is, that I think it is quit dis-tastefull to go running around popping new members of our world. When you've just got here 48 hours ago, you may not know that being in a crew is in your best interest. So one day they are walking down the street and pop, pop, pop...they are dead! I believe if this practice wasn't so common amoung some of us, it would keep the descendents coming back to our thing of ours, instead of picking a different line of work. This will only help the world we live in. So, next time your about to ambush a newly promoted gangster, stop and think to yourself, about what your really doing. It only takes a few minutes to recruit someone who, may be come one of your most loyal family members...But, it only takes meer seconds to make a life time enemy. someone who might just come back, quitely training their gun, in preparation for the day that they can avenge the death of their father. I will add one last thing, before I end my speech. Is it really worth that easy kill to train your gun, to risk it all for yourself and your family? *McFinnigan steps off of the crate and pulls a flask of Jameson's out of his pocket. Taking a large pull, he walks away, carefully placing the flask back in his pocket. |

*Belushi nods* Yes indeed sir, I fear aswell that as you say it, descendands might look for other places than ours, but I am afraid there is more to this problem than only the training issue.. Many people consider unsponsored gangsters as a threat and therefore would take them out even earlier if not our current rules would forbid them to do so.. What I would love to see is that at least the youngsters are told why they were shot. Give them the last words that explain their death, tell them that they already had 48 hours to find a family and that their failure to do so has caused their death.. I think every responsible hitter would agree that by that we could help our population to grow.. |

Belushi, I have to agree with you on that point. If you absolutely have to wack an active newly turned gangster, atleast tell them why, so they might come back. That seem's like the most possible and pheasable solution to our problems. In a perfect world the new arrivals, would all be aware of our un-spoken rule of it being ok to wack unsponsored Mafiaoso, but they are not. So I guess the best solution, would indeed be atleast an explantion to the person your about to fit with cement boots. |

I couldn't agree more, McFinnigan. I remember the first of the Giaquinto's wandering on the sisters shores of this place (OOC: .org) Like some many others, once he enough prestige, he was quite vulnerable without a family providing protection and sure enough a local Wise Guy tried having his way with ole Sal. What if that would-be assassin was successful? Ole Sal_Giaquinto I, knew nothing about joining a crew and associated benefits of sponsored. He learnt the hard way, luck was on his side that cool October afternoon so many years ago. Anyways... While learning the hard way had it's benefits... being shot at isn't much of a recipe for success. :) I said luck was on great grand dad Sal's side, it was... not only did he survive, someone from that same family recruited me into this Thing of Ours. Unfortunately, I'd say the minority does share our optimism... while the majority rather stump out potential. |

walking along is interested by this debate and stops to add his point of view Well we all know that we need all the new people to these streets to stay here if at all possible but i think here you are talking about something which will never be achievable. I believe that people around here know that if they dont kill these people, then there will be someone else who doesnt give the slightest hoot about new people and believes, since they will be killed anyways why not gain the advantage for themselves. In saying that, I believe that all new people should read the bible first, therefore knowing that one of the first things they should be thinking about doing is choosing a family. In failing that if people want to help them, if you see someone that looks as if they dont know which way they are going. It wouldnt take too much to have a quick word and direct them either to the bible or to let them know it would be wise to find a family to increase their chances of living a longer life. If after doing that they still do nothing about it well then hopefully the next generation of their family will learn from their mistakes. moretay steps aside to let someone else give there opinion |

My bloodline has been around a long time and has witnessed various methods of regulating this sort of activity. It has ranged from no restrictions, to a 48 hour restriction, to a 72 hour restriction. The common theme has been, it doesn't matter how long the CL-enforced restriction has been, you'll have people who push the limits and abuse the grace period. Not so coincidentally, when there was no enforcement at all, Civies and Thugs, for the most part, got their asses in a family right away. When enforcement for a 48 hour rule was VERY strict, meaning instant death for a first offense, no questions asked, we had unsponsored Gangsters mocking the rule, staying unsponsored right up to the last minute. It's a bit ridiculous. Somewhere, the line has to be drawn. Our Bosses should not tolerate these "freelance criminals" making money on their patch. My ancestors have usually supported the 48 hour restrction, with some caveats. The main one being, if someone is abusing this PRIVILEGE, they should be shot. That means, get your ass in a family. Don't wander the streets unsponsored simply because of the CL's good nature. If old Piggeh were to see someone wandering around for three hours, even if under 48 hours, they would get blasted in the face. The rule is meant to allow time to find a family. If the time is given, and you don't sign up with someone, KERPOW in your face. At least, that's what I believe should be done. Forty-eight hours is enough time to listen to every street speaker, message everyone wandering the streets, and familarize yourself with the mafia bible. We have several instruments to remind those of what they need to do. Again, the Bible, three mails from Anonymous informing the immigrant of their obligation prior to being able to be shot, we have nice people who repeatedly mail the unsponsored to either "help" them or blatantly member-whore them, we have a tutorial, we have the rather obvious sign of people in bold and italics, Thugs and Civies are able to join families these days, and the not coincidental fact that everyone over Gangster has the name of a sponsor in their profile. Like I said, I support the 48 hour rule as a means of retaining immigrants, but let's not kid ourselves. It's more than enough of a safeguard, and anyone who doesn't figure it out during that time frame should be killed, because obviously none of the SEVERAL other reminders have got their attention. |

| Fact is, some people just want to jump right into our world, without learning about our lifestyle. Many people also have jobs and school and can't spend a majority of their time doing our thing. So common sense, would dictate, that Someone who just wanted to play and learn on the fly, but who didn't have alot of time to play each day, may not have known about the rule. Which isn't all that uncommon. I just find it a little cheap that some of the mafiaoso would use the 48 rule to train their guns, instead of trying to help new arrivals to our shores. | |

These people DO get alot of help, as I explained. And where would you draw the line, then? Should they wander free until they are Earners? I could have a gun capable of killing anyone within three ranks of me by that point. Your perspective is quite naive. Most of these people aren't new, in the first place. If their excuse is that they want to jump right in to this world, what better way to welcome them than to show them what happens to those who scoff at family membership? Someone who wants to "jump right in" will get no sympathy from me. People have worked very hard on the Bible and Anonymous mails. They should be used. |

*Walks up to the front of the crowd I would draw the line at goomba. Once someone hits the Rank of Goomba and are crewless, They should be wacked. Because in both your and my scenerio, They've had plenty of time to figure out how things work. I guess im just more optimistic then most and feel a little curtiousy and honor go a long way. Honor after all is one of two things constent if you want to live in this world. The other being family. Without the honor of showing new arrivals our way and giving them ample time to intergrate. Otherwise are our thing is bound to fail *After finishing up his speech and walks to the back of the crowd. |

This is a debate my bloodline has heard many many times. I personally am against the 48 hr rule. Each new person to our shores is given 24 hrs of protection by the gods. The anonymous man informs them during their 24hrs that it would be wise to find a family not once, not twice but three times. As has been stated before there are also various implements around our world to help out the newcomers. As has also been stated there are those that mail the newcomers advising them along the way to how our world works and that they would benefit to be in a family as soon as possible. Hell even the mere fact the gods have made it possible to join a family before the 24 hrs is up is even more protection that is handed out to newcomers. In the old days it was different there was less help available to newcomers but nowadays it is very different, those new to our world only need to open their eyes and ears and they will find that getting a family should be paramount to petty crimes and drug runs. How much more help do we need to give them? Should we hold their hand as they commit their first petty, or perhaps we should line up their sights on their first shot. I mean really this is the mafia, we are business people who use underhand tactics to get ahead in our world. If I was a crewleader or RHM and I had someone coming to me who was over 24hrs old to request an invite the first thing I would ask myself is what the hell took this person so long. |

iron_Lung hops into the discussion Here is a mere thought to toss out there, and I cannot think of anything better to say on this matter so here goes..... Now anyone out there who has NOT recieved a member whoring letter upon landing on these shores, please excuse yourself from this part of the discussion. But with all the whoring going on to these newcomers, along with all the other warnings/guides and informtion available to them.I say anyone who does not want in a family and dares to run the gauntlet as an unsponsored gangster.Should not be worried about by us.They should not be given any other benefits than they already have.If it means they are shot,it is not like they were not warned.Giving them 48 hours is a hell of an idea,if they were generally able to find thier own way, without any so called RECRUITING letters. In my own opinion the 48 hour rule is not being used as it should as the newcomers are overwhelmed with membership drives to be able to read anything else and feel that once they are sponsored they no longer need to do anything else to survive.48 hours is plenty of time to figure out what the hell your gonna do nowadays.I dare say to any of us to take a 48 hour period and keep track of exactly what you do here in 48 hours.it is a LOOOOOONG frigging time.Plenty enough to get your bearings. |

Ok, the 48 hour rule. It's here.. Most of the leaders are actively punishing their crews for breaking it. I had one of my own shot for doing this earlier in the week... I don't put up with it. If you see a member of my family doing it come to me! For those of you against it, that's nice... Person A arrives on these shores and starts to explore the cities, not jumping for the first whoring attempt and not jumping at the first bold suit they see. They want to get to know the place, get to know the people here... Should they not be allowed to do this without having to rush into the arms of the first leader that approaches them? Person B arrives on these shores and starts to find their way around, unexpectedly they are pulled away from their explorations (OOC: Life calls, be it work or family...) and look forward to continuing their journey. Does this person deserve to die for it? Yes, they are greeted with a helpful handout that gives a brief tour of our world and how it works.. But why should we RUSH them into settling for a leader/family/crew that may not end up being to their liking? Why should we not take into account that people have other obligations than this thing of ours? She growls a little bit... Yes, 24 hours is a lot of time.. If you are someone that doesn't need sleep, food, or has no life... Take that into consideration when you argue the existence of a rule that is meant to protect the new people to our land and help the population grow! After all... Our families were new to this place at one point as well... If we want the handouts put out by the Administrative Team again then WE need to prove that it isn't a waste of their time and effort. We need to prove that we run our families rather than them running us.. (OOC: If we want more advertising done we have to stop wasting the donated money by killing those that come here because of those advertisements before they have a chance to even begin experiencing what we all know as everyday life!) |

Boss Three I do see where you are coming from, but I don't believe that anyone needs to stay awake the full 24 hours to find out all they need to know. In fact if they are perceptive enough then a little more than a few minutes should be enough to find out what is known by many. Excuse me though for I phrased myself wrong I should not have said I am against the rule more that I disagree with the rule. Also I don't question that leaders such as yourself enforce it in fact I am actually a little pleased when I look in the obituaries and find sponsered dead. Not that their death pleases me but among those who have died there are surely rulebreakers and this shows that rules are being enforced. What I do disagree to is the attitude amongst a lot of players that give our newcomers time to do whatever they please before seeking out a family. From my perspective the first thing that anyone who is new should do is ask for assistance or seek out what they need to know rather than delving straight into making money. As I've said before if I was a leader of any kind I'd like to think that those requesting a place within my home would have the good sense to have a least a little knowledge of what goes on in our world. I'm not saying that we should rush anyone into doing anything, but as you and I have said there are plenty of points stressing the importance about getting into a family, it is in fact the very backbone of our society and I think that it is rather careless to let them just wander around. |
