Who sets the rules Started by: Mythos on Nov 25, '07 18:38
On my personal opinion there are no rules and never will be.Even if someone will try to set some there will be many who will break them so there will be no further value of existance on those rules.

We only seek for justice only when we fight stronger than us.

What do you expect when you live a life that you break laws every day, when you kill people every day, when this is your routine, then you are not a human anymore, you are an animal. You, we, live by instinct, and so we act. Only by instinct.

There are no rules.

Someone that spends his time out selling drugs that kill people, or trying to find targets innocent civilians, or even trying to find a reason to shoot some of his friends, so he can steal some of their power, then this man is not some man that you can call a family and trust.

But then how do families run?

Yes its not always based on kindness and loyalty of the gangster, it is based on the abuse of willing of power for a gangster to work for a crewleader, and when then when the gangster gets power, there is always a possibility to bite the hand that offered him food and home. And so the crewleaders won't get bothered to set rules that will protect "innocent" people.

We know that in every crew there are rules, and we all know that all members of crews know their rules. And yet there are people that break their code of Omerta, people that betray their boss trust. And so a Crewleader goes down.

Rules are made to be broken, they are only set in place to bring weight and consequence to your actions. Sure you could kill some random sponsored, but because of those rules you will probably be facing a similar fate if found out.

Just like any law, you will only get in trouble if you are found out.

If you choose to live life thinking there are no rules, then you are in for one hell of a short ride.

OMERTA is a load of horse sh*t. It isn't and never has been as universally adhered to as people believe in game or out of game

*Slevin frowned, and shrugged his shoulders.*

"Easy question. Your boss makes the rules. You don't stick to them, and you'll take a swim. It's pretty simple to understand. When someone accepts you into their family, extends their protection around you, and gives you the safety of a home, you agree to abide by their rules.

Sure, we might all be criminals, we break rules on a daily basis, but they are society's rules, not our bosses. Your boss should be God in your eyes. You should be willing to kill for them, you should be willing to die for them, and above all, you should do as you're fucking well told. I don't think that's too much for a leader to ask of his/her people."

Mythos, you make me wonder whether you speak from observing others' behaviour, or whether this comes from your experiences within your own Family?

I am not one to speak of the way The Cult operates, it is not my place to do so. Should the Boss decide to open up the inner workings of the Family, then that is his decision. I can say however, that your words do not seem to hold any weight with my own personal experiences with my Family. And if what you say did indeed apply to every mobster in the Six Cities, it would certainly be a sad state of affairs.

Rules are in place, because we are not street gangs or part-time crooks, This Thing of Ours is a way of life for a few chosen, and it is head and shoulders above ordinary criminal activity. As an example, have you ever noticed that we do not deal in product ourselves? No, we may supply, but it is not by our own hand that product is flushed into urban areas and beyond.

We may break the rules set in place by those outside of the Organisation, civilians; but there is a coda by which Associates operate. Rispetto, onore, omerta all part of the coda we live by. If we didn't have it, we'd be no better than a man who would rob his wife for cash. That is why the coda exists, to set us apart from the rest.

You say that rules cannot exist because they are broken too often. Should police officers and judges then decide to abolish their rules too? No. Offenders are punished for their crimes, just as we punish those who break our own laws. Yes, there are some who exist here in our world who manage to escape punishment on rare occasion, but it would be folly to say that by their actions, they did not have a mark on them.

In my opinion Mythos, you talk as if our every day activities are wrong somehow - perhaps you should consider strongly your place in this life.

I love it when it turns personal!

Yes dear Cathy, with all respect I do speak so because I know that what I do is wrong. A life like the one I live, that I have to live as a criminal is supposed to be wrong. I am the bad guy and I know who I am.

I am not the good duy who will get away in the end with the beautiful girl and a happy ending. I know I will get killed someday because of my job.

As for the crews, every crew has rules, but the rules dont run a crew, a Crewleader does.

Mythos, I do apologise if you took my words as disrespect, I was merely wondering as to why one would have such a negative view of the lives we lead.

In a world crippled by The Great Depression, we have money where others do not. We have work where others do not. We have purpose and honour and respect, where others do not. No one forced us into this life, we may have been groomed for it from a young age, but no one held a gun to our heads and told us to join the life.

Is it such a bad thing to have these things and to enjoy a life serving someone as powerful as the leaders we see within the Six Cities?

If what you are doing you see as being 'wrong', why do it in the first place? Arguably you could say that due to lack of wealth in America at the moment, it was the only option available to you. But then I could retort with the fact that there are millions of others who did not choose this life, so why did you?

And regarding the rules, yes rules don't run a crew. But the rules we live by as I mentioned earlier are the code of conduct for this life. We abide by it because we are more than just petty criminals, we are men and women of honour. Our bosses maks further rules for us to abide by. Those are his or her words, and as Signore Kelevra mentioned not a moment ago, those words are like the words of God. You do what you are told or you die.

It really is that simple.

I think it's in people's nature to 'play dirty'.

Their boss may say "don't shoot that guy"... but then when it happens, IF anyone sees it, is anything done about it?

Again this would be on a boss by boss basis. Some bosses may not even bother to notice, some may go directly and kill the offender themselves.

The fact is people are people, and are only worth their own honor, which often is overestimated.

*Slevin arches an eyebrow, and looks a little annoyed.*

"Yeah, a crewleader runs his/her crew. That means when they set a rule, it should be followed, no questions. You don't like the rules your crewleader operates? Ask nicely, maybe they'll let you leave, or maybe they'll just kill you.

Like I said, your leader makes your rules. The crew rules should be your bible, your holy text. If you can't even listen to your own leader, there is no hope for you."
