| Ranking suggestion | Started by: RemoGaggi on Oct 15, '09 01:02 |

a few days ago i came across an idea...right now there is only one rank that supports a male mobster and female mobster and that is Godfather and Godmother. My suggestion is we should add the same thing to the made man rank...what i mean is keep made man for male mobsters and when a female mobster makes the rank call them a made mam. |

This suggestion has been brought up several times before, but with that being said, its not a bad one. The reason why we did it for Godfather/mother was because its relatively rare for someone to attain that rank and the title is done as a manual cosmetic change. (As a side note, its only a change in the profile rank title. Nothing else in the game is changed for the "Godmother." For example, as of right now, if the Godmother were to retire or be killed, her funeral would still say "... may HE rest in peace ...") Its also a matter of math and time required. At any given time in the game there can only be 8 Godfathers/mothers; 1 in each city. To do it for everyone for Wise Guy/Gal, Made Man/Woman it would require a new registration and new recoding of character databases by adding in a gender field, since its not something we can do manually. (Theoretically, if there are 500 users, all 500 users could at one point be Made Man, and doing all those changes by hand would keep us from doing a lot of the other coding/work). So for right now we've kept it out of the beta until we overhaul our registration and character database management, however it was considered being put into V2 (not really an update of this game but a totally new system). This being said, if other suggestions and future implementations necessitate the addition of a gender field to user registrations, then most certainly we'll see it happen. This hasn't been implemented NOT because its a poor idea or that its a waste of time, its just that nothing in the game currently makes this particular suggestion overwhelmingly 'needed'. |

And what about for those people who are uncomfortable being classed as either one or the other? There are people who consider there to be more than two genders (or sexes). An androgyne or a hermaphrodite, to cite just two such examples. What of them, hmm? ;) |

I campaign for the inclusion of Godparent, Made Person, and Wise Individual. Any specific reference to gender is frankly sexist. Any gender specific pro noun - he/she could be changed to the generic third person term 'they'. Thank you. |

I don't see the need to change it at all. It isn't authentic, are people truly bothered that they really have the rank Made Man instead of Made Woman? It might only be minor but I personally hate the "Godmother" change and the Don change which was thankfully dropped a while ago. ~T~ |

I entirely agree with Tallien. And furthermore, it's not like people's characters are walking around with "Made Man" pinned to their shirt. If anything, rank is just an indicative term of where they stand in the family, with any woman at "Made Man" having attained an equivocal level of respect/power. |

I have an idea. When you create an account, why not have an option to select if your a female, or a male? This will help in that coding. Thoughts? |

McKnighter, that was already addressed in VendettaJames' post. It wouldn't 'help' with the coding. It would be the culmination of a whole new field in the database and not something that can be thrown in. |

There was a change to Don? What was the female equivalent? Donna? |

Prehaps some of the user base hasnt decieded if they're male or female yet. They really dont needed added pressure put on them. Theres no need to add sex to the registration process |

It was changed to Donette, but it should have been Donna. Although left unchanged would be a preference as that is far superior. ~T~ |

OK, well how about it only affects new accounts once it's coded in? Not sure if this is true, but didn't ThomasRourke use that name for the account name, instead of a e-mail address? But, meh. |
