I am looking for some feed bak....

Firstly i was wondering if there were any people out there that are knowledgeable about electronic equipment.. I am looking for some decent audio and recording equipment. I don't have a great deal of money but i am not looking to buy the bottom of the line stuff either. If you have any suggestions please feel free to post the here...

Secondly I am an amateur country singer and guitarist and once i get some stuff together i was wondering if y'all would be willing to listen and give opinions..

Any feedback is great... positive or negative... Please list links to the equipment you are recommending and why you feel it stands out from the rest.

I haven't got any links as I generally don't buy anything online, and frankly I'm too much of a lazy tyke to start googling stuff :/

As far as a mic goes, I'd well recommend a shure SM58, they're generally around £100. If that's a little above your budget you could go for the Shure C606 for around £35. They're both primarily vocal microphones but they'll stilll record instrumental with excellent quality - particularly if it's only going to be an acoustic guitar. I don't know how much you're looking to spend, but if you want to mail me I'll give you my thoughts on the various instrument mics I've tried.

As far as recording software goes (if you're looking to record onto pc) Adobe Audition and N-track are both absolutely superb, but a little pricey and complex (especially audition). Depending on how much post recording editing you want to do, there is plenty of free software that will record music well and let you splice bits from it at the end - pretty basic but it'll do the job.

What are you looking to do with your recording? Are you trying to make a studio-type recording or something live to put on a website for online promotion? I ask because there are several affordable options available but it would help to have a better understanding of what you are looking to accomplish. Also, is it just you and an acostic guitar?

i plan on putting it online just to get my name out there and then i plan on release a few cover albums later down the line...

If that is your intent, you could easily record something using any MP3 recorder. Or, even more inexpensively, if you have an iPod you can buy the Griffin iTalk. It is a recording device that will record directly to your iPod in WAV format and sounds pretty good (depending on the acostics of the room of course). If you can find a decent open mic at a place with good sound you can get a pretty good recording (that is if you are looking for a live recording)
