The Betrayal Started by: ballsy_mcdermont on Oct 26, '09 20:48

Joe Shcmoe slowly enters the neighborhood tavern and slides into a corner booth. For the first time, he is alone. He always comes here with his best friend. They never miss a night, or an opportunity, to sit and talk business while having drinks.

His sleeves were rolled up to the elbow. His tie loosened. Thick mud covered the bottom of his wing tips. It looked as though he was deeply saddened.  He holds up his hand and motions a "not now" movement to the bartender.

"Where is Donnie, boss?" asks the bartender. "I said not now. I am not in the mood for meaningless bar-talk. Furthermore, I don't ever have to explain myself to you."

His cell phone rings and startles him a bit.  "Hello Don. Yes sir it is done. I just got to Two Bits Tavern. I'll be by shortly, bye."  He lays the phone on the table and stares at the ceiling. "Pour me a double, Jimmy."

Jimmy brings over the drink, as if hurrying, to keep the boss pleased with him. "Sit down Jimmy."     "Yes boss" he says as he scoots next to Joe. "About earlier, you'll have to excuse my snappyness.I had to do something I never thought I would have to do."  Jimmy stared at the empty chair almost knowing what Joe was referring to.

"I had to kill Donnie today. He was overstepping his boundaries. He was trying to have the Don whacked so he could buy his way to the top. He hadn't paid any tribute in weeks and his drug use was getting the best of him. I just had to throw what I thought was my best friend, into the Hudson."

He sighed as he shot back his drink, closing his eyes trying to forget the day he had just ensued.

Jimmy brings over another drink leaving the bottle on the table. He sits back down and looks Joe in the eye. " So you confirmed your suspicions. I knew he was bad news from the start.
