Like most big cities, New York has a long criminal history filled with pickpockets, robbers, bootleggers, mobsters, and gangsters. Sinfest went to Boss Szatiglio (The Hell Cooperative). In return for an alleged $150,000 three The Hell Cooperative gunmen, DixieSmall, GrimReaper, and Gangrene, murdered Marla Singer on 31 October 1931. 31 October 1931 Marla Singer was shot and killed from a car in front of her hair saloon at 1400 Franklin avenue. On the way to hospital she whispered a message to RobertPaulson (Paulson??) who went to hospital with her. A final mystery added to the murder is that there were substantial rumors that GrimReaper was in South Side, CH prison at the time of the Singer murder. Carl Buff of the Durdens ratted on the The Hell Cooperative Crew for the slaying but no charges were ever filed. Carl Buff soon fled New York for Detroit where he got involved in smuggling liquor from Canada. Needing better financing he sought out Bradley Poe "Bronx Poe Boy" in New York who in turn brought him to Illammo. Buff and Poe established a successful rum running operation. Upon hearing of Buff's return, The Hell Cooperative retaliated. 11 march 1932 one of their gunmen fired at Buff while he was standing with a group of men and was severely wounded and died later.
