Thud Thud Thud.

The sound, it keeps drawing him back.

Thud Thud Thud.

How did it come to this?

Thud.. Thud.. Thud..

How did it happen?

Thud.... Thud.... Thud....

His eyes glaze over. The pain has gone now, he's past it. Only the mental anguish remains. He notices blood on the floor. Is it his? He is beyond caring. But it could be hers..

Thud Thud Thud.

It draws him back again, he strightens his aim, they will not get away with this.. What they did. What they would do. His mind wanders free of its teathers, remembering...

The day had been warm. He remembered the sunlight splashing across her face. All those years ago. Or was it an hour? A minute? It didn't matter any more, here at the end of it all.

She and He had walked.. Through the park. The kids were at home, they were happy. They had laughed, and smiled. She wouldn't smile again. He would remember it as the last happy moment in his life.

Thud Thud Thud.

The men are trying to get through the door, to finish the job. It is good, solid oak. They are battering it down with a table.. It has been in his family for generations. But what does that matter now?

Thud Thud Thud.

The men had come to the house first. Found it empty appart from a maid and two children. A girl and a boy. Eight and nine. To the men they were just collateral. Easy targets. Shooting practice. When She and He had returned home they had noticed the silence. They has seen the blood.. The bodies.. She had screamed. Her last sound, and it was a scream.

Thud Thud Thud.

A crunch. His arm shakes. They're breaking through. Another crunch. A head appears at a gash in the door, and He shoots it. One down. How many were there? It doesn't matter. He will kill them all. As they killed her.

Thud Thud Thud.

Her scream had drawn them, like sick wasps to her pure honey. They had gunned her down, tommy guns blazing. He had been hit, although he didn't know how badly. He had dived into their bedroom, pulling her already lifeless body by their clasped hand. There he now sits. Waiting.

Thud.

They come pouring through the door, ants in a relentless stream. His aim is true despite his mortal wounds. Bullets slam into his body. But he doesn't feel them. The men fall in their droves, but still he sits there. His love on his lap. Never to laugh again.

All is still, But for the gentle "Thud Thud Thud" of his heart. He will regret his own life for the rest of his days. She and He. He and She. Never to smile again.

I like this story I think its one of the better ones I have seen I just think it was put out at a time where people were a bit to busy with wars and rebuilding for lots of people to comment.

I really feel sad for the man. And the worst part was he saw his children and wife dead. But he didn't back down. He stayed right be her side aven in passing. I find it romantic.

Good job on the details.

A little tear goes down the side of Sally's face

That was a very touching story there, the best I have ever read

Incredible. Moving, gripping, thrilling! A readers dream! Not a fault I can think of, apart from one small flaw. I have noticed a few of your elipsis have either one too short or one too many dots!

Take that as a very small point among this amazing piece!
