Stands there looking into the curious eyes of the small gathered crowd in front of him he clears his throat and begins to speak... I wont try and keep you long, just got a question and I wouldn't mind know a couple other peoples take on this. The other day I was wondering about the streets listening in on a few speeches looking for something that caught my attention, I had heard someone say something about people being authed and that if we can't trust all these capos that around to have a family then why are they being promoted? Well everyone is entitled to their own opinion and is free to believe in what ever they wish, who am I to question that so I'm really just looking for your personal opinion on the matter. Personally I think that you should get promoted depending on the work that you have done within the family to help benefit the family in what ever it might be. The amount of dedication, time and how you show your loyalty should always matter I think. When you join a family, you work for them and in return they will keep you safe and when deserved let you climb the ladder in the family to a higher rank. I think you work for your family and your rank reflects that, it is what you put into it and that doesn't mean just robbing old ladies and selling some drugs. No its getting yourself known to your family at least and maybe even some what in these crazy streets. But all in all I think working for your family and earning that rank, and starting something outside your family is totally different things and different things are taken into account for each. Just because you are a made man or a capo or even a boss, doesn't always necessarily mean you should have your own family. You made a pact when you joined the family trying to get auth should be the last thing on your mind, all you should care about is doing what you can to benefit your family in a smart positive way that is your home family should always come first... A would think a leader would promote you because of the work you have done in the family, not because they want to auth you... I don't know just my two cents, anyone else care to share what they think? Steps aside and hopes someone else will share a couple words... Much respect, Dakine. |

Whilst it's true that both promotion and auth are based on trust, it's also true that they cannot be based on trust alone, particularly in regards to auth. Not everyone is cut out to be a leader, it's a very small minority that have what it takes, but let's not get into that discussion. We've had countless CL's in the past who were good mafiosi, but not leader material. So, I guess on that basis; I agree with you. Earning trust to the extent of being promoted to and beyond made surely counts for something? Well yes, but alone, it's not nearly enough. Equally though, if someone has proved themselves to be made, and especially if they have been given a position such as Capo or Boss, then they are capable of running a crew; even if it is a ten man affair under another Leader, no? What I'm getting at is, in our thing, it is extremely difficult to deal in hypotheticals and generalisations; each and every 'case', if you like, is subjective, at least that's how I see it. |

I agree, somewhat, with Quango's statment about leading a crew under your own leader. If I were in the position to auth people I would auth those that had shown leadership skills in my family. They might not be the highest ranked, but if they are Made or above and have a clear show of leadership ability then they should be taken into consideration. Rank is based on the amount of work you put into for your crew, auth's are based on rank, and on how well your skills for leading are. I'd suggest that crewleaders put people whom they are considering authing up in their own HQ as sub-crew leaders, to test the abilities of such. That's what I'd do anyway. |

my short reply is this. Made Men are not smart just because they are made men. Some MM are given their MM status because of their loyaly and hard work. Doing what they are told, when they are told to do it...this doesn't take a lot of smarts. However running a family does. Just because you have a great made man, doesn't mean they are smart enough to run a family. and even if they are smart, doesn't mean they have the skill require...or perhaps the "People Skills" |
