| Restricting the "Reserve a Name" function | Started by: HenriDucard on Jan 03, '16 23:29 |

Pretty simple - I think that the reserve a name function should have a restriction implemented to where you can't reserve a name if another player has logged 300+ hours on that name. Thoughts? (This was posted earlier with a couple more lines, but they weren't important) |

Disagree. There's names that a few different people have used and gone far on - Katniss, for example, has been used by Kendra and Draven both for accounts that will have gone over 300 hours. So, who gets it in this case, if both want it? Everyone had equal chance to reserve names when the feature came out - I've had mine reserved before. Sometimes you just have to up and use a different name if yours are gone. |

I get that point, and it's a fair one. My qualm with this is there are people who intentionally reserve other peoples names with 0 intention of ever using them, just to be...assholes/trolls....which isn't what this feature was implemented for. |

That's been going on since the feature was brought in though. I know it's annoying cause I've had it done to me before, but I just... started using a new name. And then it just wasn't a problem anymore. People have spent the credits on reserving the names now, and the feature has been in place for so long that I think reversing it would just make a huge mess. |

What if... You reserved the name and didn't ever use it that after so much time it fell off your reserved list then? Also as far as the actual suggestion goes... I don't think it's a terrible idea, but I don't know about making it retroactive. Maybe in place for the future. |

I have yet to use the function but I feel like you shouldn't hold onto one name forever. what's the fun of it? |

Personally I think the feature should just be removed entirely, and people refunded, but I doubt that's ever going to happen. I wouldn't mind seeing names fall off the reserve list after like... a year, though. Or some reasonable amount of time. It's actually kind of sad that people have abused this feature with the sole purpose of pissing people off/making money on it. |

Only if they have never used it. I wouldn't pay 3 credits for it to fall off in a year if it's one I actively use. I don't mind the feature at all. But I am with you, I don't like that people have used it for the sole purpose of trolling over it. |

Having the name fall off the list after a set period of time is kinda penalising people who don't die at the drop of a hat and therefore don't use the name so often. I haven't used Ziva for about 18 months now, but I will use it at some point in the future. I just had two fairly long runs on it and haven't felt like it for a while. I'd still be fucked off if it fell off the list for that reason alone. People who use the feature to troll only successfully troll if people actually get visibly heated about it. Making a new name up really isn't that much of a hardship surely? |

Well, for one, you'd think that right? But... There are quite a few of us who cycle through the same name(s), so I'm going to go ahead and say yes - it is a hardship. But that is not my point :\ My point is someone else shouldn't just be able to hijack a name that you've created and are known by. For example - I've had 2 names "stolen" from me already. RasAlGhul and Telkin. I could give a fuck less about someone else using the nick RasAlGhul, but Telkin? The instant they created that account, everyone would assume it's me. And say they knew what they were doing and had some background info on me, they could potentially train up a good account and then do something like take shots at a CL - successfully smearing a stain upon "me" - even though I'd have had no fucking clue. |

Disagree. As was said many times before, if the name is worth three credits to you then pay the three credits. If we want to exercise a renewal service to keep the names reserved, so long as it doesn't exceed two thousand credits a year I'm all for it |

To be fair people still reserve names to be dicks. I really hate that they have the ability to do that. While I can see your point Anna that some people have same names over 300 hours each, maybe it could go to the person that used it first? Maybe there can be an option that if its been over 300 hours and you were first but dont intend to use it again that it can be removed? |

Simple solution. Reserve it while you have it. |

A mere example: I got less then 5 hours in on this epic name. You or nobody else can touch it. You are insane for even coming out here with this topic when the answer is at your fingertips.
Insane reminisces the true meaning of being insane in the eyes of one who knows. |

You could not pay me what it takes to buy off a district with bg's. But I guess thanks for the offer. |

This is already in since 2014, if you put 500+ hours into a name, its automatically reserved for 1 year for you. If you put in a few hundred hours, you have made tens upon tens upon tens of millions in game cash as well as credits, you can easily reserve the name. If you feel strong about lowering the number of hours to 300, got a suggested length for the registration? |

| 300 was just a random number, really. I didn't know that something like that was already in place... Hrmmm. Well, never mind then lol I will have to just adjust. Thanks for the response and info Squishy <3 | |
