this is probabky already done but why not advertise on social networking sites like face book and myspace. on facebook for example this are a few mafia games but they are turd, people sitting on them sites perving on people(like me) will see  the advertisment

Admittedly this idea could run some risks in security, but I know a lot of people (myself included) who would benefit from it. And if someone already posted it, forgive me. A lot of suggestions here.

In short, why not create a decent Mafiareturns Mobile site or Mobile Phone App? One that can run from the browsers on most mobile phones? That way when I'm out and about I can check my MM's, do a petty or bribe on my DFP without actually being at home.

I know that would definitely be a fantastic selling point. In fact one of the most common reasons for slumping activity among mafiosos is the lack of free time and things IRL getting in the way. But if I can pop on my mobile and respond to a MM or bribe, i'll still feel connected and active. I know that it's possible to bring the site up on some mobile phones, but the interface is choppy on my blackberry and it could be miles ahead what it is now.

There could even be an app for Blackberry App World or iPhone App store to allow easier connectivity. iPhone apps not only have a HUGE fanbase, but they can earn you a profit through the iTunes store that could be used to further fund ads/the site.

Just an idea.

Anyone can create Apps on android market.  Would triple the userbase.  There would be lots of idiots, but that's not necessarily a bad thing for training our guns.

I think one very important aspect that many of the administrators and seasoned players overlook, is that once fresh players are trickling in (which I have no doubt happens at the moment, just maybe not at the desired volume) - no matter the circumstances of their first death, I assume from experience it is extremely challenging for them to be inclined to make another account and stay in the community. We are all well aware that it takes a seriously vast amount of hours to build a character for some success - and the inevitability of losing absolutely everything and dusting yourself down to restart takes an incredibly intense level of dedication that not many people are capable or even able of doing. From my stand point as a "casual player" - I am ninety percent certain that this is my first (in numerous years) and last account. I am sure people would agree that the dynamics of this game make it incredibly niche; but the rewards are that a solid, inspirational and passionate user base exists because of this. In my humble opinion, there should be more focus on enticing those players that do stumble into this universe to stay here, people that already have an interest in these type of text-based games - rather than to focus solely on mass advertising. Some suggestions I have to do this are as follows:

  • Have testimonies from users on the homepage (around log-in/registration) for new potential players to read, so that they are able to get a good gist of what to expect from their experience on the game.
  • Have a complete overhaul of the visuals; without removing the navigational layout around, even the beloved colour scheme could stay - just I feel it should be a priority as the benefits could be enormous. The classic feel can remain and with experience as a graphic designer I am willing to help if the administrators are interested.

Thanks for reading.

Hi, I started playing this back in 2003 (the original .org site), dying a lot. After around 4 characters I left. At that time I started playing with 3 other people, we all played at school during the lunch hour. One of these people was our teacher, he is the one that advertised the site to us.

Anyway after 4 characters I stopped for a while, tried again in around 2004/2005, after dying again, made a second character, after he died I left the site again. Since then I have had one run on the .org site, and 2 or 3 characters here (all of which I just left as IA to die.) When I die, here I will probably make a maximum of 1-2 more characters, both of which will probably die fast as I will be putting very little effort in.

The first time We (The 3 mentioned earler (oh, and about 10-15 others, who my teacher also got into playing it)) stopped playing,  () left for the same reason. We put so mucgh effort into the game, and in the end started life again with nothing. This is a big problem, and part of the game or not it is annoying to die.

As it stands I have put a lot of effort into this character,  so when I die, whilst I accept it will happen, my next character will have very little attention and effort put into to him, because I feel "why should I put effort into nothing".

The second time I stopped playing was due to the fact I was randomly killed by a higher ranked person who "was showing a friend how WACK worked" He got away free because he was a higher rank, I was outraged at that, why should higher ranks be able to kill who they want, they can kill just about anyone, but not just anyone can kill them (they are too strong, how did they get this strong, well it feels like people left them alone and didn't kill them).

Maybe that is a misconception which I have, but if so I can say it will be a common misconception to many people.

The times I signed up and just left were because that there is very little to do here. And even less for newbies. We have petties, and felonies, and well thats about it (and to be honest click *wait* click is starting to get old and tiresome). Everything else is a bit of a rareity. MUC's don't really count, as you get one per day. Drugs count, but you only get to do them every 2 hours or hope that maybe the prices will change in your city. You also get the casino, but they are so expensive that it can't last long. Body guards and the such (again too expensive for the average user) are ok, but thats only 30 seconds of todo time. The final thing is the forums, problem here is it is difficult to decide what to put for a post (If your new, it's what hasn't been said before, if your old then it's probably all been said before). Also after dying a few times, you wonder will you get a hit from your post.

One final point is something I never thought about until mentioned above with the "pissing pants thing" It does feel like your been labeled as petty and such. Almost like you are not good enough. Other times when this happens is "success that bum handed over..." and "What are you stupid? You don't dare roll someone who outranks you *that* much!", maybe we could replace it with something like "Listen kid, look at that guy, look at his suit, he is a man of power. An insult to him may be the last thing you do, maybe it's better to mug someone else"

That's a list of problematic things, solution wise I do not know what to suggest, maybe when you create a new character, you could have a field to put your dads (previous characters) details, and retrieve their mail and inherit their cash. Then you at least feel like you have gained something from all them wasted hours. As for things to do, this is very open to discussion, not to be a traitor (I re-registered with .org and left around 2 days later, can't stand the interface, or the energy feature, or the fact i died doing a Jail break) but I really like their horse racing feature, gives another way to earn cash (it is pretty easy to win using the trifector bet, or at least it was) and it is something to look forward to every 15 minuites. Also you can own your own horse (and not too expensive to own one eather) I know it's not much but it is something else to own.I also like that they have a church. The reason I like this is it was roumerd you needed to donate $1,000,000 to the church to reach a certain rank (Not sure if it was true). As far as I know, to rank up all you need here is points. Maybe if you had to do certain unknown tasks to rank up it would add more interest (Maybe when you died, since you figured them out, you could rank quicker and have at least some sort of advantage from your last life)

Well that is all my 2 cents as they say
