So for the last hour or so I have been discussing with tiggy and another person the circle of life on MafiaReturns. I've come up with a few categories of players and wanted to share them with you, to see if you all think I'm right, or if I'm just tired.
First off is the GHOST.
The ghost is the player that clicks an MR ad, but never registers. They take that valuable click from us, but never register to even view the game at all. This is the worst type of player, because I don't even get a chance to tell them how horrible they're being.
Then we have the TARGET.
The target is everyone's favorite player. They click an ad, register, and then decide a few minutes into the game that they just don't like it/have time for it/think grey goes with their outfit. Thus creating an IA for our hitter population to salivate all over their guns about.
Then we have the CASUAL.
The casual is a player who clicks the ad. They register. They even find a family in time. Then... pretty much stop. They log in maybe once a week, long enough to do a petty and check drug prices, then off they go again. I'm sure you've all seen this type of player, hell you might have been this type of player at one time. The good news is from this point on players can change. You CAN graduate from being a CASUAL player to a DETERMINED player.
A DETERMINED player is one that logs in at least once a day. They know that being on is the most important part. They want to rank, and they want that recognition. This type of player is what the majority of our population is. They don't ever rank very high, and if they do they don't last long, but they keep coming back for more, hoping one day to graduate to RESILIENT player.
A RESILIENT player is the more hardcore of the bunch. They're logged on at least once or twice a day. They're on IRC, because that's what all the cool kids are doing. Hell they may even run bars and post in the forums. These players know how this game works, and are playing it to the best of their abilites. They may or may not hope to graduate to ZOMBIE DROID. I mean, who really WANTS to be a Zombie?
A ZOMBIE DROID is Deimne. A player who is just never offline. This type of player has MR on their brain 24/7. When they're in traffic, with MR on their mobile, and get cut off while doing a petty, this is the type of player that looks up and says "I'll fucking make you swim with the fish's!" These players consistently rank, because that's all they know or think about. This type of player cannot rank any higher in the types, as they are the last type. In fact, this type of player will eventually spending over a million dollars in therapy for a diagnosed MafiaReturns addiction.

ADVERTS!
I could have posted this in the zombie droid's (Deimne's) contest, but I thought I'd do it without the incentive. Let someone who really needs the cash earn it. What I'm talking about is a GRASS ROOTS directive at advertisment. They do it for music stars, why not for a game? Have a local bulletin board? Make up a mafiareturns poster with your referral link on it, and post that shit up! The BEST FORM OF ADVERTISEMENT IS WORD OF MOUTH and your mouth is as good as any.
As most of you know I also go by Anubis, so my suggestion is also a code suggestion. Or more, a request FOR suggestions. If you have ANY suggestions about additions to the referral system that would increase it's productivity, or different ways to help users, post them. Mobmail the link to me to make SURE I get a chance to see it. I'll look. I troll the damn suggestion thread hourly whenever I'm on here, so I will see it. And if It's about referrals or a GRASS ROOTS ADVERT system, I will respond.
