This is something I've thought about for a while and I think it's something that could be useful if used correctly.

As a community we're all pretty close, we've all killed one another and fought along side one another countless times, if you venture on to IRC you will notice that on occasion it can be quite busy in there, here more relationships are made and for me, it's where you'll really get to know your fellow players. Over the years the amount of people using it seems to have dwindled a little but never the less, we're still a community.

I've always noticed when on IRC though that people will come on just to ask a question with something completely unrelated to the game. They have tried googling it but couldn't find what they wanted, they've tried asking rl friends so the next step was to come on IRC and ask the MR community if anyone had any knowledge on the particular subject.

This made me think, what if we knew who did what and instead of asking the entire #DL channel, people could go to a thread which told them who might know about that particular subject.

Example.

A needs information on Subject X

A checks networking thread

B has knowledge of Subject X

A contacts B through IRC/e-mail (if one is provided).

The only problem I can foresee is how to find out who knows what. Obviously some people are incognito and wouldn't want to divulge who they were.

However, if people were willing to drop their IRC nicks or e-mails within a post and let us know what it is they specialise in (perhaps with credentials also), then we could find out who the go to guy/girl is for that particular topic that we're looking for.

No doubt this could be finely tuned and I'm well aware there are probably holes in this but I think it's a good idea and so I propose that if people are interested then they should get involved in this.
