Hello everyone. After doing some research I have found out something that I thought was well...redicilous. The word "LOL". I have heard many people say the word "LOL", and I have heard many people getting "bitched at", about it. Well I have come here today to intorduce a new word to everyone! LOL. For those of you who do not know what "LOL" means, it means laugh out loud. So lets say someone says something funny. Say LOL. Lets say someone does something idiotic, you say LOL. It is pronounced "El-Oh-El", not "LAWL", like I have previously heard before. Times are changing, and so are words. So let's not be uptight about silly little words, and worry about make money, which makes our world go around. Thank you all for listening.

Chanel then smiles, looks out at the crowd and see alot of different facial expressions, then awaits to see what the public has to say about it.

If I where standing on the streets, talking to the masses and someone interupted me with this 'LOL' Id be rather offended. You would think that someone would put some more time and effort into what they're going to say. Words make the greatest impression of all.

You miss understand my words. My thoughts where not directed at your speech, but at those who randomly walk by and shout out this 'LOL' or the always annoying 'Good Read'

So let me see if I have this straight. There's a new trend where I stand in front of someone, and I say an abbreviation for "laugh out loud" while I am not, in fact, laughing? I just sort of say that I would be laughing if I in fact had the capability to laugh, or if they were actually funny or something? Doesn't this just sort of make me seem like a mental patient, or perhaps a reptilian imposer incapable of laughter? I mean, I know sometimes a joke isn't funny, but this just sort of rubs it in someone's face that they've failed. Or do I have this wrong, and you're supposed to actually laugh at them, and then say this el oh el thing as an "oh, by the way, that was a laugh, not some hideous monster that lives in my lungs wailing at you before pouncing. Don't worry, I'm a totally normal human being capable of non-faked laugher. And that was an example of the totally natural biological function of laugher." Seems a bit unnecessary to me.

Shakes her head.

I don't know, sometimes I just don't understand these modern trends. Jazz music, zoot suits, el oh el, what will they come up with next, ruffling each other's clothes in public? I just don't understand how this is in any way useful or desirable as a new trend.

After listening to Ms. Borgia's reply, Chanel decides to reply to her reply.

This "LOL" term is not a term that is suppose to make you seem "like a mental patient" or that you are uncapable of laughing. It is simply a new...trend. We do to much thinking about certain things. Sometimes we should just lay back, relax, and LOL. Oh, and I am not saying that everyone has to, I am just speaking for the people who have not spoken up for themselves and explain why they say "LOL".

And explain to the "Wiser" people, like yourself, why we say that word.

I myself have no problem with this new trend, people have had a moan to me about it in the coffee shops in the past but then in contrast to using this new trend you have Don's announcing they may be stripping off in nightclubs, people having snowball fights and people telling tall tales of fake wars they have been in or other things that never happened.

You've got to roll with the times I guess. People are forever introducing new slang and new ideas, why someone just the other day was calling me a fucktard. A fucktard I tell you, whoever heard of such a thing?

Well, I'll "lol" all day at the "fucktards" out here, I can't imagine people having too much of a problem with it.

I am just wondering when the terms be right back, laughing my ass off, and the like will become shortened for the lazy? Honestly, the butchering of the English language has already gone far enough, the very thought of this "LOL" being acceptable in our Streets and Business Districts is disgusting. It dips below standards many of us have stuck to for years and cheapens the very existence of our world.

Quick question Ms. Sekrit, who said that the English language has to remain the same, and cannot be changed? Just as our world today is changing, the new lingo will change aswell. I am sure that some of the "acceptable" words today were once challeneged by a person who did not want to see change, but what happened? The word eventually became accepted. A few years from now, we wont even think about saying "LOL" twice, because it will just be apart of our everyday talk.

It just takes one person, to stand up for what they believe in (Even if it is something as small as the word "LOL" ), to start a chain reaction. And Ms. Sekrit, that is who you are talking to.

Show me a dictionary where it is an actual entry, not some subpart slang filled joke of a dictionary and I will listen to your drivel.

I have to say that if I were to see it as a response to a discussion or story that someone had put a great deal of work into, not the five minutes you chose to dedicate to this topic, that I as a reader or participant would find it insulting. Just as the staff down at City Hall have outlined in the Street Posting Standards act.

I never claimed that "LOL" was an actual word. Just as some of the words that we say today, at some point was not a word in the dictionary...does that make it less of a word? I think not.Some people may find the word "LOL" insulting. For that, there is nothing that I can do, because I cannot control your emotions or feelings about a word that is up and coming. As I said earlier, some people did not accept words, and to this day still do not accept the words that are used. But...it's still a word.

I gotta put an opinion in here...

The day that 'LOL' becomes widely accepted as something to use in speech is the day I pull all my hair out, swivel around on my chair ten times and fall out my 10th floor window. It really does irritate me to hear people say the words 'el oh el'. If you asked me why though, I couldn't give a definative answer. It's just something i've grew to really dislike.

It's widely used in the coffee shops though. I will also admit to using it myself many of times in there. But there is a time and place for it. Here isn't one of them I would think. As DirtyLittleSekrit has pointed out. City Hall have passed an act to this effect as the Street Posting Standards act. Which I am in happy agreement with.

It is still a word, regarless of the fact that you think its "disgusting" or"insulting".

This 'eh oh el' is hardly a word. Its apart of some wierd coffee shop lingo that is not acceptable in the streets.

I think it all boils down to the persons personal opinion and what they like and dislike. And could someone please show me exactly where it states in the Act that City All passed, saying that "LOL", is unacceptable, please?

"Good story", "great story", "I want more", "I can't wait for more" and other less literate versions are not acceptable forms of posting praise. If you wish to share your praise, put some effort into it.

Time and time again we have people complaining about these unacceptable replies. It doesn't take much work to add a little bit to your reply. Think of how you would feel if you had put huge effort into a role play scenario or story and were met with "n1", "GUD WRK", and the like.

If you do post these types of replies they will be deleted.

I do feel, as do others, that the abomination to the ENGLISH language you have decided is a word, that is not really a word but an abbreviation, falls under the unacceptable replies... Do you really want to see a place held so dear to many of our hearts littered with the likes "LOL", "BRB", "LMAO", "LMFAO", and so on? Some of us still respect the written and spoken word and would rather not see our public places dragged down to the low level of several other "worlds".

One person can stand up and try to change things.... But many will stand in the way. And madam.. I am one of those many.
