I can't believe I'm actually writing a thread in the outside forum... First time for everything, I guess.

Anyway, I did this on facebook last year with some friends and got some interesting results. I would like you to make 3 recommendations to me. A book, a film, an album.

Now, I'm a bit of a movie nerd, so you can take it as a given that I've seen basically every mob film ever made, there's no point recommending Shawshank or Seven... My DVD collection is some 800 films not including tv series box sets.

Musically, I don't do heavy metal or hardcore techno/dance these days, but I will listen to pretty much anything else. My music hard drive it 1TB and it's almost full, so again, you can take it as read that I've got Oasis and The Rolling Stones covered.

Books are slightly easier, I suspect. I read a lot, but it's generally Crime/Thrillers... and Wilbur Smith (if you haven't read him, I strongly recommend you get any of the Courteny novels out of your local library, he's really quite extraordinary) I'll pick up some Dickens or one of the "Classics" when the mood strikes, but I read to relax rather than to struggle through obtuse language.

What I'm saying is I'm after things slightly out of the ordinary. The best film I've never seen, the best band I've never heard of, the best book I've never read... So Mafia community, what do you recommend?

Film: ordinary decent criminal ( haven't seen it in a good while tbh :/ )

Film - Revolver or RocknRolla - Both kind of big films in the UK not sure if they'd be your cup of tea, both worth a watch imho.

Music - The Twang - Jewelry Quarter album Have a listen to a tune called Barney Rubble, if you like that then you'll probably like the rest of the album

Books - The Hobbit - Not sure if you'd have read this but it's definitely a favourite of mine and not as big as LOTR.

Band: 3 doors down album any there all good.

film:Babylon A.D (vin dieseal was great but it did progress to the end a bit fast for my taste.)

Book: Harry Potter and the Deathly Hollows, exceptionaly good from the rest and when the movies come out if they changed even a single thing like they did for HBP i will be pissed. (I wanted to see tonks rescue harry not luna, that would have been a good scene.)

Album: Acoustic Session (Volumes 1-4) by Boyce Avenue

Book: Brave New World by Aldous Huxley or if you want Mafia themed try For the Sins of My Father by Albert Demeo

Film: Lower City. Directed by Sergio Machado

Album: The Dark Side of the Moon - The Flaming Lips - They did a cover of the pink floyd album and was released on the 23rd of december. Its actually pretty good.

Book: The Godfather, The Sicilian, The Last Don, Omerta or The Family all by Mario Puzo

Film: Mafia! (its a comedy take on the godfather and other mob movies, its the funniest shit youll ever see).

Music - Steven Segal My god.

Film - District 9

Book - The Forgotten Legion (roman epic) OR The Wolf of Wall Street (True story inspired boiler room)

Music: 65daysofstatic - The Fall of Math (2004); No idea if you're into Post Rock or not, but have a listen and see what you think. If you don't like it, just delete it.

Film: Soldier Blue (1970) - It's a bit dark and horrible in places, but I seem to recall it really being quite good.

Book: 100 Years of Solitude - Gabriel Garcia Marquez

I could go on and on and on, especially about music and books, but I feel these 3 will have to suffice. For now at least.

The Family by Mario Puzo is an excellent book. Its a "fictionalised" account of Pope Alexander IV and his family, the Borgias

Not from the particular album I suggested, but gives a good idea of the sort of stuff they do.

Not much into books myself, so can't recommend anything.

Music: Louis Prima, the Collector Series.  If you haven't listened to Prima before, you're in for a surprise at how his music inspired so many of todays artists.  If you think you haven't heard of him, your likely wrong... He did a lot of music with Disney, and is the original voice (and inspiration) of the character King Louis from the Jungle Book.  I direct you to the song banana split for my baby, it's quite funny.

Film: Pi.  Sundance festival award winner.  A real mind bender flick with an original approach to film style (some don't like ti because of this filming style, but true film enthusiasts embrace it)

Album: Cage the Elephant, just got into them, pretty good band.

Film: Magnolia

Book: Any Alex Cross book, great series.

Music: Tv on the Radio - Dancing Choose

Music: Brianjones Town Massacre - any song really

Book: Devils Teardrop - Jeffrey Deaver (a little mainstream but I thought it was excellent)

Film: Dr Strangelove (I'd expect as a film buff you would have seen this, but often a hidden gem even for ardent film fans)

Album: Nneka (self titled album)

For anyone interested in food in other cultures then a must read is  a Cook's Tour by Anthony Bourdain

Film: I assume you've seen everything worthwhile, which is making this a bit more difficult. Fallen is a good film, I'd recommend that.

Book: I'd have to recommend a trilogy here, namely "The First Law" trilogy by Joe Abercrombie. You may pick it up and be just, wtf is this Grin are you serious? But trust me and stick with it, I'd be surprised if you didn't like it.

Album: Arctic Monkeys - Humbug.

Robert Crais, anything he writes I find to be extremely well done. His Elvis Cole series is fantastic. If you're into myster and suspense, I suggest checking them out.

Film: Fight Club
