What about Bananaman in its own right? Or simply Bananas? I happen to believe either would work well. As a fruit, a banana works more effectively than say, an apple. Or an Orange. Or.... A pear... If I'm going to take any fruit based Mobster seriously, a Banana would clearly lead the way in all matters of business. |

| But then by your logic - the nickname decribing the mobster - The American Eagle is just as worthy as a Rumblefish. American Eagles as we know are majestic birds and extremely powerful. We live in a world governed by honour, respect, omerta. To me a mafioso with the nickname American Eagle would certainly portend a certain honourable nature. | |

As has been stated before a nickname may be all anyone is known by, Sometimes it's only those closet to the person themselves who will find out the true birth name of a person. Many will just know them by the name that is used most by most. Annonimity can be a precious commoodity in our line of work. Many in our line of work like the freedom a nickname gives them allowing them to disguise who they really are. |

St. Stephen approaches the group discussing the names of his fellow citizens He pauses to consider his fathers reasoning for naming him St. Stephen Well i might add to the conversation i find that the names of our fellow members of these streets are more important in the fact that they can give an insight into whom person maybe but not only that can be used to miss lead others to think little of you and give you the upper hand in that they underestimate you. As for my name I believe its a fine name but hardly one suitable to this world unless looked into deeper. St. Stephen was the first proclaimed martyr of Christianity hence Saint. What does this mean of me as a person? Well i am sad to say that at first my CL thought i might be a rouge to be. My point? Well the reason I believe that my father named me St. Stephen is because he is a symbol of loyalty and one willing to sacrifice. Not only that but I can enjoy the irony of a Saint with a gun. As for the many of the stranger names of the community I think that they have been named for similar reasons to show a point about them or to hide one and the beauty of it all is that they only know and they knew making their choice so we must all take that into consideration. St. Stephen walks away wondering of what reaction if any people may have to this statement, then remember that he is here to be heard and to be a member of his community *he wanders down the dark alley way with just a smirk on his face and not a care in the world* |

You raise some interesting points, Slevin. As a prospective employer I try not to be too judgmental and get an immediate bias against someone solely on name alone. Some make it very tough though. Some of the silly names just generate a sense of wit and you move on from there. Others just leave you scratching your bulbous green head wondering what the parents were thinking. I've seen a lot of both in my time. I've seen your "Asparagus_Pee"s, your "Pez_D_Spencer"s, and I've seen some "Evil_Pants". I've seen my fair share of xxxAsshat69"s too. Remember when that one guy influenced by donnie darko used 28-06-42-12 and ran with it? Took it all the way. It's hard to say whether a name like that is considered a stigma or makes you stand out as an original. Some of my favorite people have had odd names over the years. Dirty Damned Apes, Shifty Bastard, Baron GreenBack et al. The ones that put thought and intelligence in their names can take advantage of the attention and make it work to their advantage. That's what it's all about in the end. Separating yourself from the pack and being perceived as an unique person. |

I suppose those that steal their names from two-bit Hollywood films are better off? Should we expect their parents lack of creativity in choosing their name to carry down to their offspring as well? Personally, a name is what you make it. If you want to be known as Dumbass101 and prove to the world that you are respectful, hardworking, and loyal, then so be it. |

You wanna think how I feel, saddled with a name like Brutus, whaddya think that does for my reputation, eh? People don't trust me all that much. I've always said, it's impossible to make a second first impression. 'They', whoever 'They' is, tell me not to judge a book by it's cover; but why the fuck shouldn't I? We live in a world with huge emphasis on the written and spoken word, so almost by default, huge emphasis will be placed on one's name also. It irks me when someone portrays themself as a Don in their name, even if they are new blood knowing not of our supposedly strict rules regarding respect and conduct. Yes, it irks me, but not half as much as those who feel unwilling to get themselves noted, those who feel content to sit back on their forefathers' achievements, if any. What's in a name? More than you could possibly imagine! Well...not that much, but nonetheless...yeah. |
