When The Chips Are Down Started by: Caroline_Dhavernas on Mar 21, '16 00:17

Caroline enters the local coffee house and takes a seat far from the windows but with a clear view of the door. She checks her watch. She's late, which means Leon is even later. The elderly waitress approaches, cigarette dangling from the corner of her mouth.

"What'll it be, hon? The coffee cake is fresh, just pulled it out of the oven myself!"

As she watches, an ash falls from the end of the cigarette and lands on the table.

"Just two coffees, please. I'm expecting someone shortly..."

At that, the entrance door opens and in walks a haggard looking Leon. He spots Caroline and slides into the booth across from her. She studies him as the waitress returns and places two mugs on the table.

"Hey, you got any of those bear claws? I'd kill for a bear claw. And a cigarette. Can you spare one, Gorgeous?" He winks at the old lady, who blushes like a teenager.

"Sure thing, Sugar," she preens. After placing two coffin nails on the table, she walks away. Leon drops his pleasant facade and scrubs his hands over his face. Caroline speaks.

"What have you done? And what will it cost us to undo it??"

"I've screwed up doll. Remember that swanky bitch Tiffany from the airport? The one who couldn't seem to figure out how a mojito is crafted?"

Leon leans closer to Caroline across the table and in a hush tone he exclaims

"She's dead, I killed that bitch as you may already know. What you didn't know is that whore is still in my trunk. You see I missed my flight in the midst of a chaotic gunfight with the airport security. I quickly threw her lifeless corpse over my shoulder and booked it to my 1932 Chrysler Imperial Speedster. Next thing I know, it's the 20th and I realized that I was running late for our coffee date!"

Leon excuses himself from the table, slowly and casually he walks to the jukebox over by the bar. Inserts some change and selects the infamous Frank Sinatra seeing how his booming/melodic voice could mask the details of his horrific incident. He returns to his partner in crime at the corner booth

"Doll, I need help. I need to run to the hills and get out of here. I managed to wrap her body up and keep it in the deep freezer at my place for the time being but it won't be long before she starts to thaw. She's currently in my trunk awaiting her final resting place. Do you think you could help me end this nightmare? I haven't slept in weeks and I need to rid myself of this fat cow's stanky ass body. Any ideas Caroline?"

In that moment, Caroline knew she had a daunting task ahead of her, but with a gleam of hope in her eyes (kind of like the gleam Leon gets when he steps into a Chinese food buffet) it appeared she had a plan.

Eyes unfocused, Caroline recollects the landscaping crew working near the airport.

"Yeah, I think I can solve this little problem. Enjoy your bear claw, then meet me on the south side of the airport in about 45 minutes."

With that, Caroline tosses a five dollar bill on the table and slips out the door. Once outside, she gets into her car and drives towards the airport. Being a Sunday, there is zero activity on the runways. On the southern side, however, a landscaping crew is still hard at work clearing brush and planting sod. Parking a few feet away, the crew chief is obvious to spot...an overweight man sits in his work truck, cigarette in one hand and doughnut in the other. Shuddering in disgust, Caroline touches up her lipstick and pops the top button on her blouse. Exiting her car, she saunters over to the work truck.

"Hey, Mister!" she squeaks in a voice several octaves higher than her own. "Help a lady out?"

The chubby dirtbag looks her up and down and grins. "Whatchoo need, little lady?"

Caroline pulls a crisp hundred out of her brassiere. As the nasty fat man stares at her chest, she starts talking.

"I need to use your...equipment. That machine over there, the woodchipper? Ten minutes. Take your crew for a soda pop or something."

Fatty tears his gaze away from her chest and looks her in the eye. "What the hell you want my woodchipper for?"

Caroline smiles. "Woodchipping, of course. Do we have a deal?"

After a split second of what could have been conscience, the lard ass nods. "You got ten minutes. You break it, you buy it."

Leon Drives to the south side of the airport like Caroline instructed with the dumb whore's body in the back of his 1932 Chrysler Imperial Speedster. While driving to the airport he begins to wonder what kind of maniacal, twisted, sick ruse she had thought up to rid him of his problem. Once he arrives, he sees Caroline standing next to an industrial sized wood chipper. With wide-eyes and a moment of relief he wonders why he ever doubted her for a second.

"Yo toots, how in the hell did you pull something so genius off in such a short time?"

Then Leon notices her blouse opened up slightly with a glimpse of her brassiere.

"Never mind, no need to answer that question. I see you used your sex appeal to your advantage once again, never fails. I do have one question though..what do we do with the remains once the dirty deed is done? Do we just leave her ripped-to-shreds corpse there? I mean, not to question you or anything doll but when that landscaping crew comes back and has seen what you've done they'll be able to put a face to the suspect of the crime, once the pigs are on the scene. They'll have someone sketch your appearance and it won't be long before posters are up all over the city with that beautiful face of yours wanted for murder. Maybe we should think this over."

Caroline eyes the bags of sod lying on the ground.

"We're good. Tip her in there and I'll start covering..."

As Leon walks towards the trunk of his spiffy ride, Caroline rolls up her sleeves and looks skyward. Good thing her late husband had left that old punching bag hanging in their modest garage at home and she'd spent her nights punching and kicking through her frustrations. Nearby, Leon totes an unwieldly body out of his trunk and towards the chipper. He flips the switch and it roars to life. Caroline looks away and starts ripping open the sod bags. A nauseating crunching sound is heard as Leon hefts the corpse in. Minute chunks fly out of the output, and Caroline catches a blood spray across the face.

"Nice aim, Kennedy!"

As the tiny pieces land, Caroline dumps sod. The deed is done in seven minutes. As she kicks the last of the sod over a shard of bone, Leon walks over.

"You're smarter than you look. A woodchipper. Brilliant!" He claps his hand on his friend's shoulder and turns away. "Guess I owe you one..."

"Guess I owe you one...So do you want to grab a mojito? It's on me, or hell you can have the whole bar if you'd like."

Leon pulls out of the runway with 3 minutes to spare and Caroline following right behind

He begins to wonder which speakeasy in the city would be most suitable for a woman like Caroline, so he signals for her to pull onto the side of the road so they plan the rest of their evening

"Alright, we can hit up a speakeasy, I know of a damn good one on 21 West 52nd Street: 21 Club. It's already been raided once but they've made some minor adjustments to the place so we don't have to worry about the coppers busting in. How does that sound?"

Naturally Caroline is on board when the sound of free drinks tunes out the rest of the details spoken from Leon

"Okay, sounds good but first let me follow you to your place and leave my car at your home, then i'll just ride with you in slick new ride. A classy lady like myself should always ride in style when she's in the city dontchya think?"

Leon nods in agreement so they set off towards his home and prepare to take a night on in the city

Once there, Caroline parks her ride on the street and proceeds towards Leon's Speedster, she can already hear the excitement in his voice as he bombards her with the details of his favorite place to get shitfaced at.

"You see doll, the 21 Club was raided back in 1930 which prompted the construction of a secret passageway to a hidden door to an adjacent cellar, where the club’s booze is currently stashed. Now when the cops raid this joint, the bartender simply presses a button, which flips the bar’s shelves upside down and smashes the bottles of booze directly into the NYC sewer system. It's genius and the cops never seem to catch, that way I can drink and get fucked up knowing i'm in a safe environment surrounded by familiar faces, good stories, and entertainment."

"How's that sound Caroline?"

Caroline grins. As she opens her mouth to reply, shots are heard downtown.

"What the hell?!?"

Report Post Tip

"Forget about the speakeasy! Let's get the hell out of here Caroline!"

As shots ring out from the city streets, the two friends hop into the Speedster and haul ass off to safety
