Totally depends on the user..........

For most people it is going to be one of the Windows distributions, easy to use, stable enough to do everything they need to do.

For gamers, generally, it is going to be Windows, most games are designed to run on the Windows platform.

For Computer Science students like yourself and people that want a more stable, reliable system, Linux is going to be the way to go almost every time.

For large businesses and military use, you would probably be looking at Unix over Linux though I know that there are definately businesses that are using Linux distributions these days.........

An interesting topic, many would have diverse thoughts about it.

FOr daily home use windows is the most stable and comfortable.

For advanced users who like to play around with the software a bit any and every flavour of Linux would be fun
Also server side operating systems are usually Linux.

Mac OS is good but well requires a Mac system

Of course, if you are feeling brave you could try the Doom OS.  Careful you dont kill the wrong process - quite literally.

I'm a fan of OS X. I've had fewer problems with Mac's than I have with Windoze machines. Perhaps I'm just not purchasing the "right" one, I dunno.

I'm a pretty big fan of all things Apple though. Except for the iPad. I totally wanted more than what they announced. I wanted an actual tablet version of their Mac Books but NO...instead they give us a super sized iPod Touch.

Windows XP was always my baby. But Vista really ruined microsoft for me. THEN I held out till Win 7 and it is amazing. I say 7 for the epic win.
