| A Question of Personal Priorities | Started by: Moretay on Dec 09, '07 11:45 |

Moretay walks out from his HQ just as a few flakes of snow start to fall. brushing them off his shoulder he waits for the crowd to quiet down before starting his speech Hello people, I have been thinking recently about what we consider good values and traits to have if we are to succeed around here and we keep hearing the same thing time and again Loyalty honesty hard work yes these are essential things to have or to do if you are going to be any sort of a success in this life of ours but I think theres one thing that is also very important. Patience Now i know that ranking quickly is something that everyone strives to achieve(and so they should) but I would like to know what you would prefer to have if you ran a family of your own. would you like someone who is just intersted in gaining the next rank and focusing solely on acheiving this. obviously this means he will be making more money for the family which is always a good thing or would you prefer to have someone who is a little more patient in terms of ranking but concentrates on helping in the HQ working with new members of the family knowing they will rank in time. Personally my family line has never ranked extremelly quickly I doubt they ever will. But they have always prided themselves on making sure they help out and give everything in helping their family run smoothly and help out whenever possible and generally being patient until they earned their rank knowing it will come in time. so my question is how do you go about your life around here? Are you always intrested solely on gaining that next rank or is helping out around the family more important than getting promoted to you? |

Corrado thinks to himself for a moment then spits out his two cents on the topic that Moretay has brought up. Ranking comes with helping out the family. When your bringing in your dough and pay tribute to the boss your helping out the family, when you help out a fellow mafioso find his/her way your helping out the family. Family always comes first, rank is just a perk. Thats the way I see it. |

| But would you both not agree that every CL has a different definition of what working hard is? That makes a big difference, depending what the standards are set by that leader. | |

Smiles. Yes I agree every CL has different requirements before promoting. But I do think that what I stated before is two of the requirements of most CL's. |

I do not disagree with you. I was simply saying that they each have different standards some higher then others. |

| I believe my status is more patient now but before it used to be try to rank up as quickly as you can. But now I realise that will not get me that far with the rank I desire anyways. So Moretay you will have no problems with me as long as you continue to play poker. (And you better NOT stop :D) I will be trying to help the family more than just trying to get my rank up in the minimum time. Because if you continue to play time will get you a rank. | |

Melenie raises her hand not sure how to do as she isn't that familiar with big speeches and fancy languages. She looks around and sees that almost everyone is looking at her and starts to speak I can say that my bloodline has had different views concerning this subject, after reading a lot about my late ancestors I have come to the conclusion that their priority have been change during time. At first they seemed to think that ranking quickly was the real reason to impress the big guy in the fancy suit. But as time taught them otherwise it seems like they more recently have been trying a different approach, the one you are speaking about here. They have focused on trying to help fellow mafiosos the best they can. It hasn't always been that much, but it doesn't always have to be that much either. I would also like to add another thing that I think is important, even though we are gangster and all that we need to have fun and fun I have. I wouldn't stand a sec in this world of ours if I didn't have fun. Without the talking to people and all that I would turn this gun, Melenie shows her gun and pull the trigger against my own head. So my answer to this is quite simple. I would say that a mixture of ranking fast, help out and having fun is the best way to live this life of ours. I might be wrong though. Nervous as she is she realizes that her hand is still in the air and quickly puts it down looking around and wishes that all the faces turned against her could look another way |

vanni awaits a moment before giving his imput. Ahh, if i am honest, i always try and rank as quickly as possible. This is person prefrence, i have however noticed that regardless of how much money i donate and how much i make myself i just never was promoted for ages. Now, back to the point, i think the two go very heavily hand in hand as suggested before. You help out the family and help newcomers, your obviously going to rank quickly and pretty much minimum time. But if you don't, most of the time you are going to be promoted much slower and rank slower. In answer to your question, they both depend on each other. Guess that doesn't answer your question though. Meh. I'll be right back... vanni runs away. |

As you may be able to tell from looking at where my loyalties are I am in no hurry to get a new badge. For me it's all about getting to know people and moving forward in a more collective way. Patience is something that many people lack. It's something that is very important. Don't look at how long it took you to get there but rather what you did on the way. :) |

Elaina listens to the leader of the family she has just joined and the responses of the other mafioso to his queries. Finishing her cigarette, grinding it out on the sole of her shoe, she steps forward Sir, I believe and so has my family in a combination of both. Quickly ranking, not for personal glory, brings more strength, more money and therefore more benefit to the family you are in. Does it have a personal boost to you? Of course, anything we do well in life makes us happy inside. But to me, if a person is ranking purely for themselves and not involved in the family, then they do not deserve past a certain rank. My ancestors and I have been with many leaders and I have heard much of both ways. From what I have experienced and read, if I were a CL, the made man button and beyond would not be given to the one who is obviously earning rank only for personal gain and who has little or no involvement in family life. |

I personally agree with Elaina. I don't think both things are completely a part. I, myself, think that the most time you spend doing stuff for your family, more time you spend in this life instead in your house taking care of you wife and kids, so oyu get your promotion quicker. But every time I had to make a choice between these two I chose doing more work for the HQ. It is more important to take care of our community, since one day you'll will die, despite your ranking, and your newly-introduced-to-this-life son, who at that point probably will be a merely thug, won't profit by your status at promotions, but will with your status as a worker for the community. Besides IMO, ranking should linked some what with the work you make inside the family. There is a reason that you can't get past earner if you boss don't say you're ready to have other possibilities. I mean, everyone can climb to the point you are getting money to the family, but it's harder to get a position inside the family thinking group. BF |

Often, you'll hear me saying... 'you live and learn.' Maybe this is a poor example to use in this discussion, but I felt the need to clear it from my chest. 'You live and learn.' What does that mean? I can sum it up as, you experience an event and you take something from the experience, in the form of knowledge and the application of knowledge (wisdom). Our experiences allow us to grow. Our experiences heighten our preceptive, allowing us to make more informed decisions. Our experiences and how we coop with them; good or bad really define our character. What do I prefer? I prefer someone who is willing and passionate to grab life by the genitals and experience, learn and grow. How does that apply to the debate... well, a balance is really necessary. Ideally, people should have a thirst for new experiences and greater responsibilities, but without being a wise guy and experiencing the things of a wiseguy, how can this person be a successful capo regime, or a consigliere? Without knowing first hand the role and place of a wise guy. We must all play our role... learn what we can... and apply it to the future, without jumping the gun. That's Sal's stand. Are you in good hands? |

I think you need a fine mix of all types. Some people like to stay quite and make money. These people usually rank fast and moneys always good for the crew. BG's, HQ, drug runs an what not. Others like to help out new people there also good to. They make new people into pros who in turn, turn into money makers or new helpers. Its the mafia circle of life. *Inserts straw stirs drink and wonders off* |

| after all is said and done, I believe that if you have the worked your hardest for the family then when that button shows up it should be pressed right them. Don't hold back, not for any reason. You earn more respect this way, and it makes your crew more apt to recruit new members as they are so proud of the family they are in, they want to shout it from the roof tops. | |
