Suicides Started by: Mr_Black on Feb 07, '10 17:02

Why is it people can suicide and start up a new character right away?

If your shot and killed, right on, you died in the life of crime and deserve to start up fresh.  I feel if you turn the gun on yourself it deserves repercussions.

We have seen a lot of suicides lately.  The most common reason is disliking the family your in and wanting out - and by suiciding your being selfish by not offering the shot to your family.

Some would say "Why give the kill to a family you don't want to be in?" -
My answer - because you fucking joined them.  Just because you were too damn stupid to find out about the family before you joined them is not the fault of the sponsor, it is your fault.   Just as member whoring is commonly frowned upon these days, so should suiciding bloodlines.   The knowledge of ones bloodlines, however, usually dont come to pass until they have joined a different family.  So the concept of "Kill the suiciders family" is something that simply cannot be dealt with (in a truly simple manner) by the 'parents' former family.

So I ask my fellow community, do you think there should be a delay before a suicider can restart?

(Ezekiel 18:20) - "The person who sins will die. The son will not bear the punishment for the father's iniquity, nor will the father bear the punishment for the son's iniquity; the righteousness of the righteous will be upon himself, and the wickedness of the wicked will be upon himself."

Suicide is the end of a life. Any sins that person has commited end there and then, including the final act of disrespect of taking their own life. Should this persons son choose to enter this world (or should a non family member, as the bloodline/son/father realationship is something people use as a euphamism and is not part of the game) no previous acts should be viewed as part of who or what they are.

If Mr_Black shoots at me, dies for it and suddenly Mr_Blacky shows up on the shore... does that give me a right to shoot at him? Obviously not. We play each character. Each one is an individual and (while trust/loyalty/friendships will play a part for some in who they will trust) from a game point of view they should have no connection.

It is down to a family to earn the loyalty and respect needed to avoid acts like this. If we go down the route of hardcoding loyalty into the game, it's a huge step in the wrong direction.

I understand what you're saying Deimne, as I roleplay my character to the degree of valuing its life.  What just reaks havoc on my mind, however, is the people who see it as "Screw these guys, I'll just make a new character."

The foundation of our world is to roleplay, and by devaluing your characters life by suiciding for this sort of reason is not playing as is meant to be played.  Truth be told, I see no valid reason for suiciding in terms of playing the game as is meant to be played.

I guess this is more of a rant than anything, but damned if I don't truly feel they should suffer some sort of delay, if only to push them towards a more RP death aspect.
