Gun removal Started by: Pooh_Bear on Feb 08, '10 00:28

As we all know if a CL, RHM or LHM wishes it, they can remove a gun off a certain member for whatever reason. Now I feel that if your gun is removed then the only way for you to get it back is from ya CL, RHM or LHM. Seems pretty pointless if your gun is removed for you only to be able to get it back when doing whatever amount of petty crimes is required.

But then of course you can consider a Role Play aspect, which is that you are able to steal/find/buy a gun after your CL takes it. Me personally I rather not consider that for this situation, I rather make it if your gun is removed then all shooting privileges goes out the window.

What are all your thoughts on this?

I can certainly see how the first part of your idea may garner support Pooh_Bear. I think that the amount of petties required to gain back a lost gun is a bit low. I mean, to have your gun removed is generally a rather serious punishment. The fact that you can gain it back after a fifty petties (Less then four hours, by my rough math) is kind of odd and makes the punishment less serious.

To me at least, I think that either the amount of petties should be raised to an amount higher then when you first earn your gun or that it should only be able to be earned back via be given one by the CL/RH/LH.

As for the second part of your proposal...it's a slide back to being able to earn your gun easier. Reminds me of .org actually and not something I think would be a benefit. Reason being it would cheapen the taking of guns away feature, as far as a punishment.

I don't believe anyone even the CL should have the right to remove someones gun

I think the idea is absurd

Since this is probably not going to be removed, there should be some danger come in to play when trying to remove ones gun

What type of mafioso will allow their gun to be ripped from their hands without firing a shot or 2?

TBH I think the whole feature should be removed as getting wackback on an "god like" feature is stupid as well

"I don't believe anyone even the CL should have the right to remove

This is for low level punishments, as an alternative to just HQ'ing someone.  Sometimes we need slaps on the wrists so that someone can be reprimanded for something small whereas prior it would have resulted in death.

When your boss asks for you to turn in your gun, and knowing the alternative is if you dont, its death.  I would think most reasonable people would just turn it in without any fuss.  Its simply not worth losing all the work you put into your character when you can just do a few hours of petties and get it back.

I agree PB... if your gun is removed it is for a reason. It is too easy to gain it back... it should be up to the leaders Cl,Rhm or Lhm the decision to return the gun. And they also should be able to decide to give their old gun back or a new one that hasnt been trained.

Report Post Tip

I think it's fine as it is. From the role-playing aspect you could just steal or buy a new gun, so 50 petties is more than enough.

"And they also should be able to decide to give their old gun back or a new one that hasnt been trained."

That would be overdoing the punishment, and your not training the gun your training yourself on how to use the gun.

And to reply on your answer Squishy, with all due respect of course. This is just my opinion, if a CL should'nt have the power to remove a gun, what is he or she to do if a family member shoots his gun dishonorably? Is understand your point though... but a CL should have a certain power in this type of situation. Maybe they could recommend the gun to be removed by the admins explaining their reasons for this removal. That way, no mistakes can be done.

Report Post Tip

Oops! I have just noticed i am out of track Squishy, my mistake... i am used to seeing blockquotes when we are referring to what others say... but i still like PB's idea on this one...

Report Post Tip

I agree as well.  If CL's were able to remove someone's gun, and know that the person is not a threat, it would allow more time for Crew Leaders to get new players trained.  Sometimes new players need a little extra support.  Having a more serious punishment short of death would be excellent.

Report Post Tip

IMHO i don't think doing a few petties should get you your gun back, that decision should rest with your CL.

If you've done something bad enough to warrant it's removal, then you should have to prove yourself again to get it back.

Just my tuppenceworth...

Report Post Tip

I think it gives the crewleaders a little too much absolute control with their members involving a very lazy solution.

It's also lazy to ignore the roleplay aspect of it - someone can very easily find or steal a gun on the streets. If a crewleader decides to punish someone with gun removal (which is rare, as 99% of cases involving guns ends up in death anyway), they should pay attention to what their member is doing so that they can monitor his progress.

Plus, as for another form of punishment..

A crewleader can take your life from the comfort of his own city with no risk.
A crewleader can demote you back to gangster and remove your perm auth with no risk, and he can take your gun - which is the full 75 petties, not 50.
A crewleader can easily demand a financial reparation as well.

If anything, give the crewleaders the option of sending them on less riskier jobs at other locations. (IE: Raise the number of petties it requires to discover a gun to 150, or something.)

Report Post Tip

Zuldazar also agree's with this. Zuldazar thinks that if your gun is taken then you should have to either do something like 150-200 petties to get it back or you can only get it back once your CL presses a button to give it you back.

If you have done something bad enough to get your gun removed then you shouldn't be able to get it back so easy. With this new sugesstion Zuldazar thinks that it might make the 'Take Gun' option be used more often in certian minor cases instead of straight death. As that person then is defonatley not going to fire again until he proves himself.

Squishy, you know this is normally not how it plays out. CL's abuse the feature and remove a members gun to leave them defenseless or "caught with their c*ck out*. which usually ends with a dead and now un-armed body anyway

Report Post Tip

How can a CL abuse a feature? They are a CL they can do whatever they want with their members. If they take their members gun its not to leave them defenseless its to probably keep someone safe since that member probably did something stupid with it in the first place or will do something stupid.

Most of the time when a CL takes a gun its to keep that person from shooting someone until someone can fly and take care of this person anyway. For instance if I shoot at someone from another family and miss. My CL is informed he takes my gun. He can't fly for another hour he talks to the other persons CL and tells them this. The other CL says okay just get it taken care of asap. So in a hour the CL finds out where the person is then flies and shoots. Had he not taken the persons gun a hour ago that person could shoot again now. That is why the feature is in.

No one takes a persons gun for any other reason really unless they just don't trust them from the start and takes it before they can even mess up in the first place till they have proven they know how to use it and won't abuse the privilege of having one.

I agree with Squishy. If the CL/RH/LH takes your gun he has a reason to do so. If you agree with the reason or not is void. He/she is the CL/RH/LH.

Now back to Pooh. No I think the system if fine the way it is. The CL should know once they have taken it they have to remember to check back up on the member to see if they have received another. If the CL forgets and someone else gets shot it is the CLs fault now and they will have to pay the consequences. The way it is now keeps the upper structure on their toes and doesn't let them forget why they took it in the first place.

Report Post Tip

If a CL takes away a gun, it's usually for lying or making the CL doubting the loyalty of a member. It's a slap on the wrist to me. If the reason if more serious than that, then taking the gun away is not the proper punishment. Doing petties to get it back...it's fitting to me. The punishment fits the crime. If the CL still can't trust the member after that, then it's up to them.

If I understand you correctly, Pooh Bear, you would like the option of  steal/buy/find the gun after it was taken away from your CL. That would seriously insult me and I don't think a member using that option would  live long enough to enjoy it. But, that's just me...unless I got you wrong.

Report Post Tip

Lana I'm not saying that members can possibly steal/buy/find a gun, im sayin that IS what they are doing Role play wise. Thats what the petty crimes are. Real life ya don't do 50 petty crimes then get a gun out of no where...I'm sayin those petty crimes are the member stealing/buying/finding a gun. But this is not what I want, it is the current system. I want it to be that only the CL can return the gun to the member. BUT I do like the idea of increasing the amount of petty crimes required til you get your gun back. For me, if my gun was taken away from me, I wouldn't consider it a slap on the wrists. It basically tells you your Crew leader doesnt trust you anymore with a gun, and not being trusted hurts more then death, to me anyway.

Report Post Tip

If a member goes awol and starts shooting they will not give up their gun willingly and wait to be killed like a sitting duck
