Looking up at the sky, Cin sighed and sat up. It was starting to getting chilly so she pulled the sweater she had been using for a pillow up and pulled it on. She had been laying down in the park she had found awhile back. She spent a great deal of time here reminiscing about her family or just to contemplate life decisions. Today was one of those days where she was contemplating life decisions and changes she wanted to make in her life.
Cin gathered up her stuff and stood up. She straightened her shoulders with a determination she didn't know she had in her. Earlier in the day a contact of hers had told her that there was someone who could change her hair color with the dye from plants. She had sought them out and if she didn't hurry she would be late for her appointment. So she headed east out of the park and down towards some more isolated houses on a quiet street.
As she walked, Cin kept an eye on the house numbers. 8, 9, 12... ah 22, finally, she thought to herself. Unaccustomed to visiting people Cin took a moment to straighten out her clothing and brush her dark brown hair back. Silently she walked up to the door and knocked gently, waiting until it was opened.
"Hello, Tasha?" Cin asked politely.
The lady at the door was an older woman. She seemed well enough, her hair was starting to grey slightly and Cin noticed more grey when she nodded her head in the affirmative. Her dress was handmade and she held a towel between her hands that she was fidgeting with. It seemed that this woman was also not accustomed to much company so Cin pasted one of her best smiles on her face.
"I'm Cin. I believe we have an appointment. I may be slightly early so if I am interrupting something I deeply apologize."
"Nonsense! Come right in."
The older woman stepped aside as she held the door open. Cin nodded and headed into the house. The woman seemed friendly enough and it put Cin at ease a little bit. She slipped off her shoes, not wanting to be rude in someone else's home. Tasha led her into the kitchen and motioned for the chair that was already pulled out.
"I won't ask any questions about why you want the change. All I need to know is the color Cin."
Cin took a moment as she thought about it. She fidgeted with her hands a little bit and smiled to herself. She remembered how her friend told her that she had the temper of a redhead sometimes.
"Red."
Tasha went about her work. It took quite some time for her to get it from brown to red and Cin sat patiently as she worked on her hair. As they passed the time each of them fell into their own thoughts. Neither seemed to be very big on talking or learning too much about the other.
In the chair, Cin began to make arrangements in her head. She had always wanted to be able to pay more tribute to leader on a weekly basis so she was about to enter a double life to make it happen. There was a job open for a laundress and she had already made an appointment for a job interview for it. She was hardly afraid of hard work and this would provide her more money in which to contribute with.
Cin began to smile to herself. She was certain she would nail the job interview but first she needed to get through this hair coloring. Like her new job this was something she wanted to mark a new chapter for herself. So she closed her eyes and settle into the chair more comfortably.
It wasn't too much longer that Cin found herself being shaken awake.
"Cin, I'm done. Wake up Cin," called Tasha.
Rubbing her eyes Cin sat up and pulled some of her hair around so she could look at it. It was more beautiful then she could have hoped for and she grabbed her purse. Pulling out a small wad of cash she handed it to Tasha.
"Thank you very much for your help."
Tasha nodded, still stunned by the amount of money she held in her hands as Cin grabbed her shoes and headed out into the night. She would need to make it home in record time to be up in time for the interview.
The next day Cin awoke and immediately got ready to head down to the laundress for her interview. She was to meet an older gentleman named Todd. She brushed out her hair and picked out her best outfit of a long black skirt with a flowy white blouse. She slipped out of the house and began the twenty minute walk to the interview.
Approaching the building Cin began to slow down. She took a look around her and headed straight for the door. She was greeted by a receptionist once she was through the doors.
"Hello Ma'am, how may I help you?"
"I have an interview with Todd. Would you mind letting him know that Cin is here please?"
"Certainly."
Cin grabbed one of the uncomfortable seats and began to wait. It took Todd a good ten minutes before he decided to come start the interview with her.
"Sorry I am late. One of the women had a bit of a spill with hot water. Cin I presume?"
He didn't wait for her to answer but motioned toward the office nearby. She took one of the chairs as he pulled up the other around a desk. They spent a good twenty minutes talking about the job and her abilities. He quizzed her about stains and what removes them before he finally agreed to hire her. She was amused that he seemed to think her incapable of work but she kept her thoughts to herself.
"Would you mind showing me around the place so I know where to go tomorrow?"
"Of course. This way."
She followed him for the tour. This was going to be the beginning of a more stable income.
